I think this is the most dynamic block of the entire site plan. The upper level is particularly intriguing with an outdoor bar and hip bowling alley. This block looks to be the crux of the entire "nightlife" portion of the development.
Retro Dance Club could entail the return of Have a Nice Day Cafe to KC. Music Theme Restaurant in undoubtedly a Hard Rock-- might nix the idea of a Hard Rock Hotel.
Here's some pics of Luck Strike, a hip bowling center that is probably what Cordish is thinking of...

Any guesses on what a multi-tech garden is?

I wondered about that also. The Music Theme Restaurant has to be Hard Rock but I always assumed it would be 2 stories tall. Could the Multi-Tech Garden just be a part of Hard Rock?KCDowntown wrote:Any guesses on what a multi-tech garden is?

I think if we look at other Cordish developments...mainly power plant live and 4th street live we can start to fill in a lot of these blanks.
Comedy Club? Could it be Stanford's moving? I don't really see a generic coming in here and unseating Stanford's for draw.
Retro dance almost certainly is Have a nice Day.
Hip bowling.....Lucky Strike Lanes

this is obviously the bar block...great location next to the arena. My question....jazz club anybody? Where is the local flair?
Multi-tech garden...I'm thinking this is where concerts happen..except it is in the upper floor.

There's a "jazz club" next to the Empire Theater.KCPowercat wrote:this is obviously the bar block...great location next to the arena. My question....jazz club anybody? Where is the local flair?

Also I would have liked to seen a dueling piano bar.....instead of a fake irish pub or the C-W bar.

Stanford's is pretty strongly committed to staying near Westport. I think they even have a location chosen.

they were just talking about moving to like 36th & Broadway @ the old Starz location but broke off those talks...that's the only reason I mention them.
If they don't move, I say no generic comedy club...it would fail...change it to a "howl at the moon"

The Strarz on Bdwy location fell through. The Star reported today that they were looking at a site in/near the Westport Landing.dangerboy wrote:Stanford's is pretty strongly committed to staying near Westport. I think they even have a location chosen.
I think we should keep them out of P&L because the Glazers are crazy and unstable.

Yes the Glazer's have done way too much blow over the years. Besides, Stan is anti-dowtnown and anti-Barnes. He is hightly unlikely to hitch his wagon to Kay's train.

I like the builidngs on the egde of the block, with the center open. Reminds me a bit of CityWalk at Universal Studios Orlando. They had the first location of a Pat O'Brien's outside of the French Quarter. Would be cool if they got a second location here in KC.
Are you sure we're talking about the same God here, because yours sounds kind of like a dick.

OK I'm going to go through all these and select my dream team of retailers given the guidelines of the site plan and then my best guess.
Retro Dance = unique (probably Have a nice day cafe)
High Energy Club = cool house music club (some cheesy chain but still fun)
High Energy Lounge = Kabal???
Restaurant = Gates (?)
Country Western = no worrying about it
Irish Pub = Paddy O'Brien's like tat said (McFaddens...already in bed with Cordish)
Music Theme restaurant = ? (Hard Rock Cafe)
Billiards Lounge = Sidepockets (some chain billards lounge)
Hip Bowling Concept = Lucky Strike lanes is about all it can be
Comedy Club = Stanfords (some chain of clubs that won't make it with the competition from stanfords and will change to something else...PIANO BAR)
Outdoor club = no matter what, this will be cool
sky bar = same as outdoor club
multi-tech garen = same as outdoor club
Theme of this block = boozing block baby

Retro Dance = Have A Nice Day Cafe
High Energy Club & Lounge = The Red Cheetah
Country Western = Beaumont Club leaves Westport
Irish Pub = McFaddens
Music Theme restaurant = Hard Rock Cafe
Billiards, Bowling, etc. = Jillian's
Comedy Club = Improv!
You can almost guarantee there will be a Bar Kansas City in there!

I finally divorced beer and proposed to whiskey, but I occassionally cheat with fine wine.

The comedy club will be the Improv. They're already in Power Plant Live and have over a dozen national locations. From the comic bookings I've checked out they will go head to head with Stanford's and possibly put the nail in their coffin-- Stanford's doesn't even have a location anyway.QueSi2Opie wrote:Retro Dance = Have A Nice Day Cafe

Stanford should go ahead and open a Def Jam type comedy club on 18th & Vine.trailerkid wrote:Stanford's doesn't even have a location anyway.
