Kansas City Bound

Hello Folks. Another first post. I am a KC native who left town 20 years ago to take job and getting back has been an endeavor similar to seeking the elusive Holy Grail. In the meantime, however, it's great to discover this site; a fine way to keep up with what's going on back home. Anyway, we will be heading back to KC for a couple of weeks in July (alas if only for a visit). I have not been in KC for over two years and haven't spent any real time there in a good 6 years. We are looking for things to do while in town (about a week and a half). Have two elementary school age kids to keep busy too.

Is there anything new at the Swope Park Zoo? Has Science City improved (it was fairly dismal and anything but science-oriented last time we went)? What new restaurants would you recommend? Is the new George Brett place any good? We are particularly interested in good restaurants. We live in the UK and its way too expensive to eat out here so we aim to splurge in KC! How about Mexican? We were always partial to Manny's but had heard its gone down hill.
