For all its age municipal Auditorium is very heavlly used for events The little Theater has lots of musical events and parties whith smaller capacity that does not need that of t-Mobel, Alsoth the beautiful buiding is worh value. The arena holds medium large events and the exibitionHall isused form smaller exhibit agea that is chepaer than Bartle. Is is vital for convention indsutry

The Music Hall is still used regularly for theatrical events as is the auditorium for basketball events. I think convention groups also use it for things.

No, I was kidding around. Comments were taken way too seriously.

The point is that Allis Plaza was never relevant. It had been a partially submerged building with a concrete garden on the roof.

Someone should consider doing something completely different there; relocate parking on that embarrassment of a parking lot immediately west of Bartle. For reference, that unused waste of land (West of Bartle) was a mess in the early 1980's.

Your point on BAP was almost spot on. Over the decades it has had its uses, from a court for World Team Tennis, party central for Gay Pride parades, party central for Elvis Day parades, and other isolated events. However the buildings that surround BAP don't encourage a daily high or even medium usage of the block.
Hey, that block west of Bartle is historic though. For years the building that housed the Old Chelsea Theater was there. When it showed Deep Throat there were long lines of couples, along with single or groups of men, waiting to get in. Over the decades there have been plans announced for that block. The only thing that came to be are the buildings along Washington.

They should have never torn down the Commonwealth and Humphrey hotels on Broadway. Those would have been renovated into housing by now.

Yeah needs one or two permanent fountains and then rotate several smaller amazing fountains each year or so. Working on it! A formal presentation in the works.

The Commonwealth was a Nelle Peters design. Too bad it was lost.

earthling wrote: Mon Aug 22, 2022 7:42 am That’s encouraging enough to delve into this a bit further. I may simply send an email with ideas to all potential players though that might not spur enough interest/action.

Might need a mini-proposal with more upfront structure. Would hate to see one of the engineering firms take off with their own proprietary spec. A global open spec is needed for wide adoption of easily swapable fountains, somewhat similar to a USB port or SD card - a fountain base that’s sort of like a cartridge that snaps into a platform with pre-installed pump/power. How about USB-F or UFP (Universal Fountain Platform).

Have a patent for GPS/location-based services, could perhaps do a ‘provisional’ high level patent for a UFP and donate to City of Fountains Foundation, then get the conversation started with broader players to develop formal specs with full patents owned by CoFF. Or I may just broadcast email some ideas, not sure yet.

The CoFF could become the James Beard Awards of the fountain world and run an annual global fountain design contest that complies with the UFP spec, perhaps with annual fountain art fair held at riverfront park. The top 10 or so winners could be displayed at KC parks (BAP/Cap) for a period and then switch to the global exchange program with sites following the UFP spec. Rinse/repeat following year.

KC parks get coolest new fountains rotated in every year and more firmly establishes itself as the City of Fountains on a global level.
This is an incredible idea
Two proposals are in progress with 2 optional approaches. One initially targets a fountain art fair competition with Universal Fountain Platform as a second phase (longer term strategy). The other starts with a UFP Forum (involving a patent pool for contributions/updates, modeled from USB Forum) that eventually leads to the fountain art fair and exchange program that comply to the UFP spec. Pros/cons to both and both will probably be submitted, which occurs first depends on what initially motivates CoFF to go for it.

Does anyone have contacts that have been engaged with forming art/music fairs/festivals? Please PM me with any contacts that might be interested in this. Thanks in advance.

Their track record for building new large office buildings sucks (see 13th and Grand, Strata, and 1034 Main). On the residential side, they at least got Arterra and Reverb done with partners, seem to be partnering up with Hunt Midwest on something downtown, did Corrigan Station phases 1 and 2, and are now linked with CBC and Brinshore on Barney Allis.

Would some of these public properties be better off to just be sold to someone who would run them well? The Music hall and Municipal seem really dated and they should have so many more events than they do right now.
