I'm super excited to be launching this project and the neighborhood has been really supportive of our concept so far. Now just need to hope construction pricing doesn't skyrocket on us again.

Can't wait to see renderings. Don't forget that everyone seems to want a covered front porch!

Update photo taken Tuesday, Jan 10. The facade appears to be repaired, and the building salvaged.

There appears to be problems with this building again.

The problems have been ongoing. The asshole owner never fixed it, just put a bandaid on it. It has been empty, leaking, rotting and deteriorating ever since and he refuses to sell it or fix it until threatened with excessive fines. And even then, he will do only enough to get the city off his back. We have had parts of his "roof" littering the neighborhood for years. The owner has a long history of building neglect, also with other buildings in the neighborhood. He should be in jail.

Deceptive. Says it's a New Mexican restaurant but it's just a Mexican restaurant. I was hoping for some fry bread and green chili burgers.

Seems like this is moving through the process.
Requesting UR rezoning approval for construction of 20 residential units at the SW Corner of Pacific Street and Troost Avenue.
Yesterday's Planning Commission agenda says it went before it, but Compass says that it will be reviewed March 15th. So who knows. Looks good so far...

Some things are in the works that will break the gray and white color trend that we're seeing going on buildings.

They used to be able to do whimsical things on brick buildings.

Columbus Park is full of interesting brick patterns. I suspect a lot of masons lived in the area.

This of it this way: fewer people will mind when the brick is inevitably painted.

In my view, painting brick is a sin. I’ve seen houses with beautiful old red brick painted white or gray, along with a whitewashing of the interiors, and honestly, it ruins the character of those homes. Might as well have just demolished the house and built new at that point instead of bastardizing it.

I get what you mean though. But in the future, once trends revert back to people wanting brick in its original color, it’s going to be very hard, or impossible, to restore that brick back to the way it was.

Painted brick gets cleaned off pretty frequently. A lot of brick buildings got painted white through the 20th century in an attempt to freshen them up. The Savoy Hotel, Webster House, the Mainmark are several off the top of my head that were painted up and later restored. There are many more, in KC and elsewhere

Many say brick shouldn't be painted.
