No. 1 city in the world to travel and work remotely is KC

Post by KC1963 »

Apologies if this is a repost.

Kansas City, Missouri, was named the best city in the world to work during the day and explore after hours without having to use too much of your PTO time, according to a recent analysis from Icelandair.

Kansas City — known for its barbecue, jazz scene and for having more fountains than Rome — is home to attractions including The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kauffman Stadium, Worlds of Fun and a bustling downtown. It comes out on top of 115 global cities in the ranking, which were chosen because of their prominence in the tourist industry and availability of “slow” travel options.

Yeah… I mean happy Icelandair is saying that. Wish they would bring back the direct flight.

Also my good friends that are working remotely/being a digital nomad are prioritizing beauty over all else.

That said, I’m here for kc being #1 on any and all lists.

More good press rolls in. My fav part of the article was when it said bustling downtown was a reason. Glad downtown is getting this kind of recognition before we've done several other necessary big projects down there.

These kinds of lists are maybe data science gone awry but have pointed out before that DTKC is a surprisingly doable place for digital nomads, will get better with streetcar extensions and free fare bus helpful. Nomads who hop around cities every few months may actually check out KC due to this.

Two global notices toward KC lately can't hurt.

This list hasn't hit the AP wire but is spreading around...

I saw this article today also -- ranked above Vienna no less. Not sure I understand the criteria, but KC certainly will benefit from such notoriety.

The list as bogus as it may be is spreading more widely, a Fortune reprint hit Yahoo News. Oddly the article mentions abortion ban as if MO only state even though this is about travel, not where to reside. If Austin or Miami were on top, would they bring it up.

Hopefully Kansas will vote this summer to continue to provide women in the KC metro the right to choose (Missouri women will be able to make the short jaunt to Kansas if that happens).

Point being, is sad to see the abortion controversy already unfairly politicized in travel articles.

Missouri actually came up in a lunch conversation today with a group of us. One person mentioned that "Missouri has really changed" since they lived in StL for a few years. Then most started chiming in on how backwards the state is now before the conversation moved on to Netflix show "Ozark" lol. Point is that Missouri has a pretty bad rap now. It's right there with MS, LA and AL anymore.

Keep in mind that TX and FL are in same boat. Will be interesting to see the social fallout that seeps into travel industry. Will Miami suffer from global travel due to state politics? Seems it hasn't so far but this could be the biggest test.

Was odd for article to bring it up as it impacts residents, not travelers. Even if 3 month stays. And would it have been brought up if Miami were in top spot.

^ Yeah, not sure why Texas and Florida are not treated the same as a state like Missouri. I mean I think they are to an extent, but just not as harshly.

Y'all acting like half the US residents don't fall onto each side of the argument. Keep thinking that it's only some 2% of the population that is for life, and keep pretending that those folks are all backwood rednecks. I'm not sure how such well educated people can be such narrow-minded idiots, but y'all constantly preach some of the most racist, ignorant shit on here. Get outside and take in some reality. No more CNN. Turn it off.
