Red X will build new store in Riverside

Post by FangKC »

Iconic family-owned retailer Red X will build new store in Riverside
Riverside Red X, a well known grocery and liquor store at 2401 NW Platte Road in Riverside, is going to build a new 59,000-square-foot shop on the southeast corner of its current location.

Zeke Young, president and owner of Riverside Red X, said in a Monday release that customers can "look forward to a high-end liquor room, a dedicated 'Filling Station' for hosting events and samplings that opens to an outdoor area, expanded produce and frozen sections, a humidor, full-service deli and meat counter, bakery (and the addition of) a drive-thru for Phillip's Family Pharmacy."

The new store, which is expected to be completed in November 2022, is being constructed by Columbus, Kansas-based contractor Crossland Construction Co. Inc. The project's architect is Overland Park-based BRR Architecture Inc., while Kansas City-based Briarcliff Development Co. is providing development services and Kansas City, Kansas-based Associated Wholesale Grocers is supplying store design concepts and retail business solutions.

Groundbreaking for the new store is scheduled to take place at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 30.

It looks like where they are building the new store is on slightly higher ground the existing store. Hopefully, this will keep them from being flooded out all the time.

Good for them. I guess all the rich folks moving in along the Bluffs as Briarcliff West area expands has given them enough business to "spruce up the joint" a bit (lol).

In all seriousness it is kind of a hidden gem. They have a wonderful alcohol section with a great selection of beer, wine, and spirits, plus a nice humidor. Really good pricing on those items as well. Also they have a very unique Lottery section with scratch games and such that I have never heard of. They have those very high end games which can be fun, if you are looking at an alternative to Casino's, with better odds to win.

Growing up in the Northland it was a unique place to visit for sure. I can recall cashiers smoking at the registers, and this was the late 90's early 2002's before the smoke free ordinances went into effect. It was it's own little island of quirkiness for sure

Red X grand opening marks new milestone for family-owned Riverside business
Red X may have a shiny new 60,000-square-foot-plus store, which opens Wednesday in Riverside, but the family-owned business hasn't lost any of its eclectic charm.
...
In addition to a better layout, the new store features upgraded energy-efficient appliances and lighting, a larger frozen food and produce section, a high-end liquor room and a full-service meat department, “Ed’s Butcher Shop,” that will smoke meats daily. Another new addition is the deli/bakery, which will offer items such as fresh breads and cakes. The family hired a lead decorator and baker for the department, which is named after Zeke Young’s mom, Clara. For the first time, the on-site pharmacy also will have a drive-thru.

In a nod to the company’s early days, there’s also the “Filling Station,” a bar/event space that will serve wine by the glass, wine flights and bourbon. The full menu is still being developed. Red X plans to host a variety of events, including wine tastings and mixology classes.
