It was? I thought it was supposedly to be privately funded but now they want public money. They can go fly a kite.
$120 million construction cost
$6 million of STATE funding
$0 of local funding

If that matters at all

Cost going up significantly is not a surprise in any way. I think I posted before similar stadium proposals that were being priced $100 million +.

On the incentives discussion. No problem with State or local (not asked for)

11,500 seats up from 11,000 originally announced. New roof is curved but the renderings lack a lot of material detail

It's gonna be embarrassing for SKC in a few years when this is done and they're still stuck over in the middle of nowhere.

"Oh wow, that's an amazing soccer stadium!"

"Oh yeah except..we don't get to play there. We play on the wheat fields 30 minutes west..heh"

This view looking east with the skyline and the river is so cool… can’t wait to go to a game here.

West view with the bridge will be neat as well. Who knows, maybe Bally will find a way to build a landmark hotel tower too

You seem to have east & west confused. That view towards downtown is looking west. The proposed stadium is west of the Bond bridge so the west seating area would have a view of the Bond bridge to the east. I do agree an upgrade of the Bally casino would fit in nicely with the Berkeley riverfront.

Maybe it’s just not shown but I’m surprised there isn’t a big sign facing the Highway

Two bold predictions:

1. With the KC Current on track to clearly become the premiere franchise in terms of amenities in the NWSL (getting to be the sole tenant of their own stadium, beautiful riverfront stadium, brand new practice facilities) I predict that the big names in women's soccer are going to want to play in KC. Names you see in the world cup & national team. Don't tell me playing in front of some giant NFL or college stadium where 90% of it looks empty and some random teams logo's are everywhere is better. KC Current will be the premiere place to be in women's soccer with its new sole tenant beautiful stadium on river, downtown & practice facilities

2. It's going to make SKC and playing at Children's Mercy Park look weak in a few years. There will be calls at some point for SKC to move to the KC Current's stadium and to expand it to accommodate SKC.

I think both are possible or likely. If KC can fund a good women's stadium, other cities will too diluting the attractive power over time.

SKC ownership won't want to just expand the stadium. Their stadium design beliefs will require a new stadium.

Plus MLS is probably going to require 25K+ for stadiums soon enough. I'm not sure how much the Current stadium can be expanded.

All the facilities are great and everything but it isn't simply going to get the players to come here. SKC learned that.

Winning would help attract talent... so far, the KC Current have been losing low scoring snore fests.

This is way different. They’re going to be the only team in the country with their own stadium & maybe their own facilities too. And it’s just not just that they have their own, they’re Greta quality too being downtown & on the river. SKC built a nice stadium in the middle of nothing. That’s not attractive. But even so, the gal between what the Current are getting and the next best NWSL team will have is a massive canyon. They’ll attract talent quickly.

The former KC women's soccer team had some of the best talent in the country. A new dedicated stadium and training facility, combined with proper investment can't hurt recruiting.

Sporting Park was one of the first purpose built MLS stadiums and the idea was it would spur other cities to build dedicated MLS stadiums. It worked.

Not everything has to be on the level of the MLB, NBA, NFL to be successful…

The WNBA has lost atleast 10 million a year. The only reason it's around is because it's subsidized by the NBA
Like all womens sports unfortunately.
