Holy crap. How has it been an hour and I'm the first comment on this??

Our first RIVERFRONT stadium in Kansas City...about time. It looks amazing too!

https://www.wsj.com/articles/kansas-cit ... 1635214796

Wall Street Journal wrote a national article on it talking about how this is one of the extremely RARE stadiums being built just for a women's sport. Very very progressive.

-A streetcar stop will be built in next to the stadium

- Does this set off the dominoes off a rush for other teams to go downtown?

Probably should move the thread here. Dave will eventually anyway.

First events in late 2023 with first season in 2024. Stadium to be built to FIFA standards.
city and state high school championships, music/concerts, college events, and more are among the expected uses.
A “massive” area at the open end under the scoreboard allows for expansion in the future. There will be major sponsorship opportunities for naming rights and “significant branding” at each corner.

The building will a vital aspect of the city’s World Cup bid in the future.

Vital aspect for the World Cup how? For practice facilities for teams?

“This is a model on how we extend downtown.”

Why are we extending DT? Seems it’s been extending already for the last 50+ years.

When will we see a development plan or real drawings?

Don’t see them doing many concerts at this stadium sadly. Childrens mercy stopped doing concerts, with the rare exceptions, because it’s so expensive to convert the pitch into a suitable concert surface while protecting the grass. It essentially eats almost all the profit making it a loss leader.

Do we know it will be real grass?

The stadium will host NWS and college/hs games. College and HS use artificial turf.

Plenty of NFL teams do as well but it increases the chances of injuries.

There are risks when it comes to playing sports and every player should at least understand the possibility of an injury happening before they start playing anything. I'm indifferent to real grass vs turf as I previously played on both. I found the turf nicer to look at when the fall came around, but grass was nice in the later spring and summer months.

I would think they would be looking for any revenue stream possible. Artificial turf would maximize that revenue.

Artificial turf is really not ideal for soccer - not just injuries, but the way the ball rolls and bounces differently affects the game. I might be forgetting something, but I can't think of a soccer specific stadium (constructed by a soccer team who would be the primary tenant) being built with artificial turf, unless perhaps there are extreme weather elements that make maintaining grass impossible.

I agree that artificial turf would be better for maximizing the multiple uses, but I'm not sure the Current will want to make that compromise.

2 of the 3 are soccer specific artificial fields

It'll be real grass, not turf.
