I saw yesterday that after the media rights deal for NBA expires they're gonna expand. That would be 2025. Sounds about right.

My contention, as it was when this thread was it started on the first message, is that KC will be first in line for any relocation as soon as expansion is announced to LV & SEA. I have no doubt about that. The difficult part will actually just be finding a team that's willing to sell & move.

Yes. We keep falling rank in terms of metro population (recently passed by Austin) which makes getting an NBA team less and less likely. Columbus and Indianapolis will be the next cities to pass us with Nashville not too far behind.

We will eventually pass Pittsburgh and Cincinnati in the not too distant future and most likely Baltimore and St Louis but that's further down the road (and none of those cities have NBA teams anyway).

And not a single one of those cities is getting an NBA team. They either already have a team or they're too close to an existing one. I'm not gonna re-hash this again why KC is more viable of an NBA city than other "peers" just go read the first page of this forum.

About the only way KC gets a NBA, or even a NHL, team is having a local ownership group come forward to buy a team and move it here.

Agreed. I know people have mentioned the possibility of a PE group with Mahomes targeting an NBA team. Sounds like the price it would take for that is currently set at a few billion plus getting the other owners/the league to sign off on the relocation

Again though, where else are you gonna put a relocation team? I’ve gone through every possible city like two years ago when I investigated this and the only two real possibilities were KC & San Diego. Except now San Diego chose to downsize their arena so they’re out too. Every other city either is too close to an existing NBA team or they already have NHL. And yes, KC also has Mahomes to lead a group which is how these teams are bought these days. It’s all just makes total sense when you look at all the factors. Idk when it’ll happen, but it makes sense after expansion.

The way Austin Texas is growing who knows. Yes, close to other teams but sunbelt cities are where it's at. That closeness is both a blessing and a curse. And closeness doesn't seem to hurt the teams in the Northeast.

will Austin support any pro sports that don't have former Bevo stars?

The city is supporting its MLS team. Last season I believe the team finished 5th in the league for total attendance, much better than other Texas treams in the league.

*sighs* Austin isn’t getting a team with San Antonio there. There’s no market to stretch to outside of Austin, literally every other major Texas city has a team.

True.

Could see Austin getting an NHL team but not NBA

Kansas City has been chosen by the NBA to be one of the inaugural cities for the Jr. NBA league. Women league is included as well.

14 inaugural cities were selected.

Not really a surprise. Those two cities are next in line. If KC wants a team it would be through a relocation for the foreseeable future

Well yeah that was always the case. It's in our interest they become the next expansion teams and quickly. Because we're gonna be next in line once they expand to SEA/LV and the next relocation falls.

Literally KC has every singe piece to be the next relocation far more than any other city available. We just need an ownership change for a bottom tier team. I've studied in-depth for years now.

Summer 2022- the NBA is going to expand two more teams because they need to recoup the financial losses from COVID. Seattle obviously is getting a team, and Las Vegas already has the ownership group lined up and ready to go for the second slot. They will get the two teams.

However...the more interesting/realistic option here is the relocation. Just this past month, an article was written about how the New Orleans Pelicans are in serious danger of moving by the 2023-24 season. 2024 is when their deal expires with the city of New Orleans, and they're having trouble getting a new/upgraded stadium...

The NBA hasn't said when it's going to expand yet. WNBA here or in Springfield or Columbia,MO. St. Louis NBA back to. Tampa Bay temporarily had the Raptors.

Yeah NBA isn't coming here
They are after expansion is done and we get SEA/LV placed. Kansas City has more checked boxes for NBA than any other “prospective” city available. Including the three most important: geography, Mahomes & viable arena+district

Immaterial without an ownership group.
