And Vegas was chosen back then because of the promotion by city leaders as a potential home for a NBA team.

You are right. Bartle is only about 400k, I think with American Royal, Sprint, etc it’s gets above 600k but not all in one places.

KC has no 5 star hotels. Loews is 4 stars.

I'm curious as to why the NBA needs 650,000 sq ft of exhibition space for an all star game?

To be honest, sometimes I forget the NBA actually exists.

Indy just hosted and not only has that much space but is also expanding. Tons of fan events, activations, other activities

Those are good points.

I can add that Downtown -- as defined when selling the city -- consists of all properties in the loop, Crossroads and Crown Center. When adding in the soon-to-open AC Marriott and Origin (although not technically in the Downtown submarket), the inventory is at ~6,000 total. When adding Midtown, Westport and Plaza to form the Central Business District submarket, KC is at ~8,300 total.

'Walkable' is subjective and varies by event.

'Committable' is not specified, and that's also subjective and changes depending on the event.

The NBA itself is not contracting a block at 7,250 rooms on peak. The NFL itself did not contract anywhere near that amount of rooms on peak for the 2023 Draft.
