Love the sports betting idea and I'm sure the laws will change at some point. The newer Live! Casinos feature a FanDual sports betting area as part of their Sports and Social concepts. Huge LED screens, games etc.

KS is moving forward so that is the only way to get MO attention on sports betting. No way it is anywhere but the casinos though.

Looks about the same as last year and two years ago. Never seems to go anywhere.

KC Live would be a great watch party and gaming destination.

Double the size of the main KC Live screen. Add some banner screens over random brick surfaces at KC Live to show sports scores.

Walk up bars that you place bets at. Better yet, just do a partnership with DraftKings and have patrons use their app.

Lake of Ozarks is getting a tribal casino after Osage buy land there.

Recent changes in Missouri state law would allow the Missouri Gaming Commission to approve a casino facility that is built as a standard building as long as it includes a container with at least 2,000 gallons of Mississippi River or Missouri River water beneath the facility.

So sounds like it would be pretty easy for a Cordish to come in a build a 4 Light Casino now.

Let’s force em to be floating on the river, that’s a compromise Jesus can live with.

I do think gambling licenses should be very limited but the location and river water rules are just ridiculous.

I'm not sure why that was the compromise that made it "less sinny". All I remember is when they first started they had to go out on the water for a 2 hour actual boat ride. That lessened to two hour boarding but didn't have to leave the dock. Kept chipping away at the dumb rule after that.

not sure where we stand on sports gambling, but it might have been mentioned in the tread above. A unique downtown area sports bar/sports betting complex would be pretty cool. Just stand alone sports betting and maybe some electronic poker, and table games. Just a different vide then the boat casinos, but pretty much all self serve on the games and then sports books. Each casino would have their own for sure but perhaps one of them or another company no tin the KC market could come in with this sports betting idea only.

Some religious scholars have debated the biblical translation and believe that Jesus gambled on the water, and never actually walked on the water. If you think about it, it makes more sense. Unless, of course, you believe in the virgin birth, which may have been another incorrect translation.

I think at some point they realized they were sitting on a massive safety lawsuit.

Obviously they should get rid of the restrictions and allow cities to zone it as they see fit.

I don't love the idea of a downtown casino, but there is still a strip club on main St so who cares?

A downtown casino would support a 5 star hotel with no incentives.. that alone attracts me to the idea

It's not chock-full of citations, but this article does a decent job of summarizing how so many states settled on legalizing only riverboat/waterside gambling in the 90s casino boom.

I suspect that the only reason for the legal fiction of "riverboat" gambling continuing to exist in Missouri is that the existing casinos don't want any additional entries to further dilute their customer base.

Because it drastically limited the amount of time you could be on the boat.

Let's not pretend gambling isn't totally without some downside for society. I have a friend that destroyed his life, wife left him and he can't see his kids because he became addicted to gambling. Sure, most people just see it as pure entertainment fun but everyone who's been to the casinos has seen rows upon row of elderly people at the slot machines that probably are living on a fixed income and look like they could use their loses more productively. How many casinos do we really need, anyway?
