Folding @ Home

Post by bahua »

I decided that I should use my extra CPU cycles for good, so I've installed Folding@Home on my home machine. I ran it back in the kcgeek days in 2001-2005ish, but they have a linux client now, which makes me happy. I created a new team, called Kansas City Folders, and if anyone wants to join, it's team number 263691. Come on down, and let's fight COVID! Or whatever!

Get Started
KC Folders Team Stats

I'll make a forum title, and add anyone who joins to that.

On high, even the desktop made me want to change the batteries in my smoke detectors.

That was on low. And after letting it run overnight on low and while plugged in, my battery was at 7% this morning. Yowza. 16" MacBook Pro. I guess the 8-core i9 is a thirsty beast.

Pretty cool. I remember this being something of a big deal back in the early Playstation 3 days - putting it's overly complex bespoke "Cell" processor to good use.
