New report claims MO hyperloop could create $3.6B annual boost, 17K new jobs
...
Previous estimates showed Missouri’s proposed hyperloop route could cost between $7 billion to more than $10 billion to build, but this latest report estimates a hyperloop route could also bring Missouri an estimated economic impact between $1.67 billion to $3.68 billion each year, and create between 7,600 to 17,200 new jobs.
...
It also states that the University of Missouri system stands to benefit as a leader in research by creating an “International Tube Transport Center of Excellence,” a consortium with other universities that the report claims has already begun forming.

The report lists benefits including increased state and local tax revenues, reducing carbon dioxide emissions, increased real estate values around portal locations, and faster more efficient light cargo delivery for the state’s farmers and manufacturers.

The report also estimates that by essentially eliminating so much travel time across the state, Missouri’s strong industries would benefit from a larger talent pool, bigger supplier networks, and access to more training and research opportunities. In Kansas City, the panel believes that includes automotive and technology industries, mentioning employers like Ford, General Motors, and Cerner.

Guys, don't put a gram of faith on this hare-brained scheme.

The operative word on "Hyperloop" is "Hype". Government can't put higher-speed conventional trains on existing tracks, let alone new tracks. Building a tube that's evacuated between STL and KC is beyond pipe dream.

When the Kansas City Star and the KC Business Journal put a "credible spin" on Hyperloop: It makes them look SILLY.

Kind of cool to think we will have Hyperloop between KC and STL before a trolley line running from Union Station to the Plaza.

The freight industry would probably get involved if there's any substance to this, a sign of hype if they aren't.

As mentioned MO's only involvement should be acquiring the ROW and the rest of the risk put on the investors. Given MO looks to be seriously interested, they should mitigate risk by assuming about 150mph for an acceptable CBA (not 400+, anything higher than 150 would improve cost benefit) and also assume it will fail as the ROW can be used for a new I70 and/or 'regular' high speed rail.

Hyperloop operations is at least 7-10 years out. The near-term possibility is a test and certification track, if KC is selected.

Wait now, the whole reason I was converted to a streetcar supporter was because you convinced me that nobody would ever spend money on unproven PRT tech that was way less pie-in-the-sky than this, vastly less expensive, and designed by an actual engineer as opposed to being some arguably delusional billionaire's fever dream. Don't tell me you're on board with this!?

I, for one, look forward to riding in a windowless elevated cabin down the middle of the interstate.

Should there be any motivation for KC-land; skip this Hyper-crap.

Substantive discussion should involve regional rail transport and evolution of light or heavy-ish rail within the urban area.

I would not be madness to begin discussions of a rail link between the new airport, Northland, and the center city. ..Or regional rail to Johnson County and Eastern Jackson County. Such are subjects that don't stroke the imagination; but will be an alternative to the new expressways which will be demanded, if a rail alternative is not considered.

Hyperloop is just the latest spunk-madness .. Just like "self driving cars": Don't get your heart set on those, either. "Self Driving" is decades away.

^Read entire thread. No one naively buying into it. But it's a topic because MO won't let it go.

Agreed. Perhaps a Hyperloop tube that is evaculated might work...

outrageously annoying, i'm sick of hearing about it. just another diversion from the fact that infrastructure in this state is absolute garbage. missouri will be lucky...LUCKY to have something like illinois (low) speed rail this century. hell, ILLINOIS will be lucky to have it done.

this is insulting, considering the lack of state interest in funding transit at the most basic level...

I would wager to bet Hyperloop gets done before the streetcar line gets extended from Union Station to the Plaza.

Boring Company still has a test track in Hawthorne, Ca. They are actively building a "Loop" (Slow people mover system) underground in Las Vegas.
