That stage was nothing compared to the NFL Draft stage. Maybe 1/10th of the weight.

Re: NFL Draft
Is it not solid below that surface lot? Seems it could be built over Pershing if that's the case.

Oh I never picked up on that! Is it because "the front" is an elevated platform above the street below?KCPowercat wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 4:28 pm Right that was always my thought. What is the weight problem?

Re: NFL Draft
Is it because of some of the tunnels and walkways under the street? Isn't there like an underground river/creek down there?
Edit: OK Creek is what I was referring to

Arrowhead is not a highly desirable location but it's not a new idea. Dallas had the draft inside AT&T stadium recently.
A nashville style setup on Grand outside of TMC sounds great and the camera shots would be fantastic. From a location perspective it's a one stop shop for out of town guests who stay downtown and a great location for NFL folks to stay. Plenty of choices for war rooms and back of house requirements.
Biggest negative is once again space. You need a lot of flat hard surfaces for the fan experience, vendors and other items not related to the draft stage.
Looking forward to learning more this week.

Re: NFL Draft
The draft impacts could be diminished if placed at a location such as Arrowhead. But you're right, it requires so much space. Approximately 2,000,000 gsf based on the NFL's RFP.DColeKC wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 5:18 pmYes. Re: NFL Draft
Fair enough, I'm sure there's a lot more screens and extras for this stage than what was a basic and very temporary stage for the parade. For reference here's a decent shot I found for the parade.

Looking through Google Maps, and I'm no engineer, but I think if the draft stage was moved forward to the plaza where the clock is currently (probably have to temporarily move the clock) there's probably enough space and probably more stability to use all the way up into the north side of Pershing and have the fountain be a front drop of the whole shot. However, I don't know how far south the parking garage goes that is underneath the surface lot. Heck, the tv broadcasts could set up their sets on the Liberty Memorial north lawn and get that same panning shot they used to get at MSG. Meanwhile fans and activities could be set up across the rest of the north lawn, US surface lot, and pretty much anywhere between Main and Broadway Street.

Re: NFL Draft
Alternatively I wonder if they could push the stage all the way back similar to where the Royals stage was but suspend some of the heavy A/V equipment from the building itself instead of putting all the weight into the surface lot structure. Again, I'm no engineer but it sure would be a bummer if they can't figure a way to make it work.

Total disaster. I love this city and all but…idk. If this goes to Arrowhead, I might just throw in the towel that this city can progress into anything other than cowtown America.

Re: NFL Draft
While Grand in KC is no Broadway in Nashville seems like if it worked there in that setup it could work here that way.
Honestly this whole draft thing is kinda dumb forced event. Maybe they should do Theis Park and have the Nelson in the background.

It's worth the hassle, just hope it doesn't end up at Arrowhead.KCPowercat wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 7:02 pm While Grand in KC is no Broadway in Nashville seems like if it worked there in that setup it could work here that way.

Grand makes for the best TV broadcast which is really what it's all about. It's just the additional space required that makes it a challenge. Nashville had most of the fan interactive type stuff at Titans stadium which is a good walk from Broadway. So I guess you could look at larger void spaces like E.Village or surface lots in and around downtown.

Re: NFL Draft
You can take the tv shots from anywhere. Last year in Vegas was evidence of that. Where the fans were was a horrible space and secondary to the tv shots.

Please, no! It can’t be Grand, between an arena and common entertainment district. We have to show something different, not something that every other major metro has. That’s why Nashville was so well received…it was different, it spoke to what the city was, it was a marketing of the city. Sure, the NFL wants more space. They don’t care about selling the city. They just want amenities. The city needs to fight this move.

Contradicting statement. Vegas setup proves location is important or else your stuck with bad shots.KCPowercat wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 7:27 pm You can take the tv shots from anywhere. Last year in Vegas was evidence of that. Where the fans were was a horrible space and secondary to the tv shots.

So Nashville was so well received being on a city street but don’t do that? Makes no sense.beautyfromashes wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 7:56 pm Please, no! Philly did it at the Philadelphia Museum, it wasn’t good. Union station is our version of this.
Cleveland did it at the stadium, it was not great, arrowhead is out version of that.
Nashville did it at the end of Broadway looking down a city street, surrounded by bars and restaurants. Was best nfl draft in NFL draft history, but let’s not do that!

P&L wouldn’t be involved in this and the Grand idea is just dream. Would be great and make for a awesome fan experience but too many sponsor conflicts.normalthings wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 8:51 pmP&L turns it’s back to GrandDColeKC wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 8:50 pmSo Nashville was so well received being on a city street but don’t do that? Re: NFL Draft
The location of the fans and the stage is not important. vegas proved that last year. It was in a back lot behind the strip. Right here https://goo.gl/maps/hPeBi4inmuXKr2RW7DColeKC wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 8:46 pmContradicting statement.
