We’ll get a bid. It’ll be the worst teams, but who cares. Bring on Iran v Iceland!

Here is one writer's opinion for ranking the host cities:

https://www.foxsports.com/stories/socce ... g-mcintyre

We are in the "Contender" category, behind 3 "Locks" and 4 "Likely's". I am not sure if it is in exact order, but KC is 11th on the list, meaning we would likely get a bid.

If they do go with 11 host cities, I think we are very much on the bubble, probably ranking 11 or 12.

What sort of financial support are they looking for? Trains?

The bid indicated no specific transit projects would be built for the effort.

Iirc, it was a system of event specific bussing and dedicated highway lanes that was proposed. I don’t think rail was mentioned at all in our bid. Cincinnati wrote about their streetcar and Amtrak.

More news:

Between an expanded streetcar system and putting more buses on the street during the competition, Kansas City can meet the transportation needs of getting to and from events, hotels and the new airport, the host city committee believes.

As for hotel rooms, “Kansas City’s hotel inventory is rapidly increasing, with several new projects announced since the bid was submitted, and with new projects announced almost every month,” the document said.

FIFA will visit in late October.

I think we need to make progress on transit and hotels before their visit. Would be great if we could bring them to an approved Hotel Bravo site, show them where we plan on expanding streetcar to NKC and KU Med, etc.

KC has built some good hotels over the last few years that I think should boost our bid. Loews, Plaza Cascade Hotel (under construction), AC Hotel downtown (proposed), and Hotel Bravo (proposed) are great assets for WC and other future events. The riverfront casino and Freight House hotels will also be of a quality that will benefit our events and tourism business.

I really think we beat Cincinnati when it comes to quantity and quality of hotels. They do have the advantage of a downtown stadium though allowing for many rooms in walking distance of the stadium.

As much as many people on here (cough GRID) like to shoot down everything KC has, and bring up every reason why we shouldn't be able to host games- people seem to neglect that every single city on the final 17 list has their own share of problems too. Go and read articles from other cities papers and all of them complain about *something* with their bid, whether it be hotels, distance, weather, etc. Some people on here act like we're in hell and every other city is perfect. The big is not 100% contingent on just hotels & transport. And believe it or not, KC isn't the only city that has some issues with that category.

The issue I foresee is that once at your hotel, visitors to a Nashville or Cincinnati can just walk to the stadium or fan experience. Kansas City will have to provide transportation for 100% of ticket holders. A expanded streetcar network (mentioned in the article) will help with some of the day to day movements of people and would be an asset the region needs anyways.

Just human nature. Never fully believe something good will happen and then you're never disappointed.

The article kind of glosses this over:
economic impact up to $620 million, as well as worldwide attention. But that benefit — and the study also said it could be as low as $90 million after expenses — won’t come without local investments in the “tens of millions of dollars” over the next five years, said Katherine Fox, director of KC2026 FIFA World Cup Bid.
So are they saying $530 million in local investment is needed? Arrowhead renovation and new festival area somewhere in the city we know we need. I wonder if investment in transit or hotels will also be asked for. State Government leadership and Departments of Commerce are starting to get involved.

I would love to see a state inventive program for new hotel construction and/or the states finally toss some funds into transit. If Infra bill passes, MO will have $700 million and Kansas $200 million to spend on mass transit.

^Yeah, I read that too and where are they getting $500 mil from? To set up a large screen and expand a football field? That doesn't cost that much.

Could they get the state involved?

I think KC's best play is geography. They need a city like ours to bridge the gap between the coasts.

Star May have taken lowest possible income - highest possible expense.

The new BAP likely would be used for a fan site and would cost $70-100 million alone but not exactly a WC specific expense. So if that’s where they are getting these costs I can see how it could add up to a ridiculously high number.
