i didn't read the article but my guess is construction will start next year. on their website they've changed the date to a fall 2022 opening.

I guess this is good news for oak park mall, it buys them another year to figure out what to do with that big space.

“Due to the impact of COVID-19, construction on our new store at Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri, has been delayed. Our opening is now scheduled for the Fall 2022. We’re looking forward to serving customers in this location in the future.”

"Change of occupancy" -- does this mean the church is out?

CBL had been betting on demolishing quite a bit and throwing up a new Round One/AMC last I heard from a friend working at the mall. Now AMC is on the brink of death and so is CBL lol.

KC EDC stated that no one has expressed interest in redevelopment for the site, at least one with incentives

The Holiday Inn is not taking reservations past next week (I tried).

Why close the hotel and pay for a bulldozing if you aren't going to redevelop anytime soon?
I was able to get confirmation that the Merriman family purchased the hotel. They plan a big redevelopment as others said before.

KC Parcel Viewer updated to show Americo/Merriman Family as the owner.

Honestly, the rendering I saw first and my heart skipped a beat. I thought that the 47th and Pennsylvania church was going to become that. A bit bummed that it's not but hopefully one day.

Read today that Nordstrom's is pushing back their opening on the Plaza to 2023. Have they even started the building?

Wow that's a prominent storefront. It's one of the more attractive corners under an iconic, tiled dome. Hope they get someone good in that spot.

It will be interesting to see what fills it... I guess they stopped using it as the "Flagship" location when the new one in Leawood opened. Helzberg is closing a ton of stores nationally.

People totally called this company not lasting from the second it was announced that they were looking at the Plaza.
