Penn Valley QT
A friend of mine just told me he heard QuikTrip is planning a store at 33rd/SW Trfy on that empty block south of Penn Valley CC. Anyone else hear this? I can't imagine this being a good idea unless the plan for a SW Trfy road diet gets underway and features a left turn lane going southbound.

Re: Penn Valley QT
more gas stations downtown/midtown are inevitable.
it's going to be more about where they go than anything

Re: Penn Valley QT
Why can't they just buy out those crappy shell stations on Broadway and Main. I hate those places, they sell crack pipe cleaners and cater to the druggies that hang out at the plasma center. Wish those shells would go away.

Re: Penn Valley QT
The Shell at 38/Broadway caters to me. And I am not a druggie and don't hang out at the plasma center. I do, however, live in that neighborhood and am fine with Independently owned alternatives to effin QT. It's well lit and relatively clean. The one on Main seems a bit sketchier.brewcrew1000 wrote:Why can't they just buy out those crappy shell stations on Broadway and Main. You can clean other pipes with those cleaners, FYI. Not just the crack ones. Coopers and every other head shop located in the Broadway "Hookah District" sell the same stuff.

Re: Penn Valley QT
I've seen a guy ask for a Chore Boy while at the Shell on Main they sell them behind the counter by the smokes, i had to look it up because this guy looked like a bum and according to Urban Dictionary its mainly used for crack pipe cleaning.WSPanic wrote: You can clean other pipes with those cleaners, FYI. If the Shells were gone I think it would really clean the area up and give it a better image, hell cops might actually hang out at these gas stations if they were both replaced with a QT

The Shells are the worst, even the one on Broadway. Expired food, bloated prices, drug paraphernalia and porn, and the people that run them are more than shady. Wouldn't miss em!

Definitely shady, i always check the prices when they ring it up, they always overcharge me like 1.79 for a drink but on the cooler its posted 1.49beautyfromashes wrote:The Shells are the worst, even the one on Broadway. Exactly!! Watch your change too. I used to go there a lot but after the 3rd time of getting less change than I should, I put them on the boycott list.brewcrew1000 wrote: Definitely shady, i always check the prices when they ring it up, they always overcharge me like 1.79 for a drink but on the cooler its posted 1.49

I noticed that QT is adding urban locations, and that they are the new "deluxe QT" ones.
Annoyingly, they are completely ditching old locations for major intersections and leaving dead gas station blight behind.

does QT build stores without pumps?warwickland wrote:I noticed that QT is adding urban locations, and that they are the new "deluxe QT" ones.

If they don't, they totally should. There is a huge market there for urban convenience stores, and given their quality and efficiency, I'm sure QT would pretty much dominate it.pstokely wrote:does QT build stores without pumps?warwickland wrote:I noticed that QT is adding urban locations, and that they are the new "deluxe QT" ones.

I remember this model in Chicago with other gas station chains. as it's the convenience store stuff that makes the money so it can work in KC too.Demosthenes wrote:If they don't, they totally should. Imagine if there was a 24x7 QT convenience store without gas in 2-3 spots downtown and another couple with gas.

There's a lot of gas-less 7-11s here, but they are always slightly decrepit, even in the suburbs. as much as i hate the way QT elbows it's way into neighborhoods (they just tore down a two story urban building at Big Bend and Manchester to build a massive QT right in Maplewood/Richmond Heights highschools front yard), gas-less QTs would be far preferable to 7-11s.
Crack Stop, anyone?

Re: Penn Valley QT
At our Volker Neighborhood Association meeting last night, one of the attendees mentioned that none of the neighborhood associations (Valentine, Volker, Coleman?) immediately surrounding the proposed QT were in favor of it, nor were council members Glover and Marcason. No one had details, but some comments were made that a left turn lane would be built from SB SW Trfy onto 33rd, similar to the one by Sun Fresh.

Re: Penn Valley QT
They just put in an urban, gasless 7-11 here in one of the new buildings on Rainbow. I really wish we had more of these, and gasless QTs. They really would be perfect for downtown.warwickland wrote:There's a lot of gas-less 7-11s here, but they are always slightly decrepit, even in the suburbs. as much as i hate the way QT elbows it's way into neighborhoods (they just tore down a two story urban building at Big Bend and Manchester to build a massive QT right in Maplewood/Richmond Heights highschools front yard), gas-less QTs would be far preferable to 7-11s.

And do we really need another Quik Trip here? The one at Southwest Boulevard and 31st is really close

Re: Penn Valley QT
QTs are all corporate owned, many 7-11s are franchised out to people who spend little on their stores, including security, some 7-11s have gas pumps, others don't, would QT franchise a pumpless store?

Re: Penn Valley QT
Doesn't appear to be physically possible. SW Trfy isn't wide enough there to add a turn lane. The median's maybe 3' wide.kcjak wrote:No one had details, but some comments were made that a left turn lane would be built from SB SW Trfy onto 33rd, similar to the one by Sun Fresh.

The left turn lane at Sunfresh was added when the place was built. In other words was not part of original construction.

they built a new QT at I-435 and State Line, the QT at 103rd & Wornall is still openDemosthenes wrote:They just put in an urban, gasless 7-11 here in one of the new buildings on Rainbow. Re: Penn Valley QT
There's no room to add a lane to the SB lanes because of the houses on the west side of the road. The NB lanes would have to jog 10' to the east to make space for the turn lane. Seems unlikely that the city would be willing to do this for a single QT.aknowledgeableperson wrote:The left turn lane at Sunfresh was added when the place was built.
