Well, John McDonald doesn't own Boulevard anymore. After he is retired for a few years and gets bored, perhaps he'll take on a Boulevard themed pub.

Ha, well I think the law reads that you can't have any ownership interest at all. He will have a minority interest going forward. I can't imagine him fully withdrawing from Boulevard/Duvel.

As another data point to all this, Schlafly gets to operate its restaurants because (according to this article), it's classified as a winery under Missouri law.

Given that the Boulevard tour invariably points out that it also has a winery license to enable their catering business, I'm guessing there's nothing stopping it from structuring itself in a way that would allow it to own/operate a restaurant directly. However, Boulevard's FAQ has had the item below for as long as I can remember:
Do you take dinner reservations?

No, Boulevard is not a brewpub and we do not have a restaurant. It’s hard enough to do one thing really, really well, so we invest all of our time, energy and resources into brewing great beer. There are, however, plenty of outstanding restaurants and pubs in our region that would be happy to serve you a great meal and a cold, delicious Boulevard beer!

Tickets on sale soon! Am I gullible to think this might be really cool?

Just seems like BLVD tends not to half ass things.

No, it'll probably be alright- depending on what kind of permit they can pull to allow open containers on the streets, it could have a classic First Friday feeling.

What worries me is whether this event will suffer the same fate as most beer fests held in KC: massive lines. I hope they have a plan for that.

I heard that Dogfish Head was supposed to be there too? I hope!
They're putting together food line up too. We were asked yesterday! :D

I love how Stone isn't coming.

Since the beer tasting portion of their festival is only from 3-7pm on Saturday during the festival I've got to think it will have some lines and be more like the other beer fests held throughout the year.

What makes this different (it seems to me) is that it is a 3 day 2 night festival with food, music, beer, shopping, and educational tents. It sounds like a wide variety of beer (from BLVD and others) will be available (for sale) throughout that time in a more traditional festival setting--with people distracted by entertainment and not just focused on slamming beers. I hope they have a very wide and varied offering during this time- that is what will make this standout.

While there are limited tickets available to Taps & Tastes, there will be an abundant number of general admission tickets accessible to Boulevardia for the entire weekend. A number of additional breweries, some of which are featured in Taps & Tastes, will also have special tappings at the Boulevardia bars throughout the weekend for general admission ticket holders to purchase. Boulevardia general admission tickets include entry into the festival grounds, national, regional and local music acts on two stages, and access to tasty food trucks, local artisans, a family-friendly carnival and eco-expo.

Announcements regarding the entertainment lineup, food providers and local merchants will be made in the coming weeks.

This is my favorite part:

"specifically in and around the iconic, multi-leveled 12th Street viaduct."

Think they'll utilize the mid level space?

They sent out a bunch of arrogant and nasty tweets after boulevard sold about not "selling out" and was pretty clear who they were talking about. All those beer guys are fairly close guys but I think the Stone guys turned their noses up at our beloved brewery... The DRAMA.. proly just jealous.

Either jealous or too punk rock to open for Green Day.

Are there 'free' areas to attend or do you have to have tickets to enter entire thing? Is sold out right?

You could hang out at the gas station and listen to tunes I suppose.

Weekend passes are gone, but single day tix for $15.

Sunday (12-6) has a special distillery section. Hope the rains stays away. Or maybe not!

I love that they are adopting the same or similar bike valet service that has been present for New Belgium's Clips of Faith. Bike checks at events like this are such a terrific option. Anyone in the Midtown through River Market area should consider using it.
