There used to be a pedestrian bridge between Columbus Park and Tracy on the south side of the interstate.

I think it was there to connect Columbus Park to Garrison School.

Kevin Collison is reporting a new development partner has come on board to renovate the Jazz Hill Apartments along Paseo from 8th to 13th streets.

New Developers Take Over Jazz Hill Affordable Housing Plan
A new development team is taking on the previously approved Jazz Hill Apartment plan and intends to invest more renovating the grand, but moribund, old apartment buildings near downtown into affordable housing.

Indianapolis-based Flaherty & Collins and the Twelfth Street Heritage Development Corp. plan to renovate the 11 apartment buildings on the west side of The Paseo between Ninth and 14th streets into 197 affordable apartments.
...
The monthly rents expected to be charged for the revived Jazz Hill project are estimated at $600 for a studio, $725 for a one-bedroom and $825 for a two-bedroom.

The new development team anticipates beginning work by the end of the year and delivering buildings on a staggered basis throughout 2022 with the entire project completed by 2023.

A pedestrian bridge would be nice. Would be way easier to fit into the space with ramps and stairs on the north side.

Smuggler's Inn in the East Bottoms (you can see it from I-435) was totally destroyed by fire last night. It is believed homeless people were responsible for starting the fire.

Corinthian Hall: A+ for preservation of a Gilded Age mansion; C as a mansion house museum; F as a KC history museum. The structure needed to be conserved at all cost. It is unique in our area. Unfortunately the interiors were so destroyed by museum conversion and the contents auctioned off and scattered to the wind it was impossible to make it an historical facsimile the likes of the Newport mansions and Biltmore in Asheville and numerous others. It is more of an archaeological project than anything. On the main floor some of the public entertaining rooms have had partial restorations of some features. Some bits and pieces of furniture, china and decorative arts have been donated to give some indication of former grandeur. The only real intact rooms are the ones that always were, the salon and library. Throughout the first floor anachronistic(though beautiful) modern chandeliers and sconces have been placed where originals are missing. There is a gift shop in the sun porch and in the rear wing a cafe(not yet operational) and a conference room. I hope the premises will be popular as an event space as I cannot see much repeat visits from locals happening.
The basement has a reimagined billiard room and a not yet operational soda fountain. The soda fountain bar is a modern one, don't know why they took out the antique one that was so popular in the old museum.
The second and third floor are mostly space for temporary exhibits. There is a small theatre showing a film about the mansion and the Long lumber business and Longview Washington. About half the space on second is the history exhibits. Consists mostly of photos and narrative with only a smattering of small historical objects. Kudos to attempt to incorporate minority contributions to city. Not really even a Clilff Notes outline of regional history. Certainly nothing to catch interest of school children. A colorful textbook would be better. The old history exhibits took up at least 6 times the space and only went up to 1900. Gone are the immersive Osage encampment, the flatboat, the covered wagon, the Morgan Boone cabin, More than ever we need a real history museum with tens of thousands of square feet. They plan on having temporary exhibits based on artifacts pulled from the vast collections. Showing now is a history of the El Torreon ballroom at 31st and Gilham. Was very engrossing and the artifacts from the Cowtown Ballroom days were nostalgic to me. One object I had not even thought of since the seventies was an issue of the newspaper "Westport Trucker" sort of psychedelic tinged news and ads from days when Westport and Broadway was the Hippie capital of the prairie.
There is a new elevator so one can not fear getting stuck(happened to me in the mid-nineties) but they kept the old one in place as an historic relic. The outbuildings are yet to be redeveloped.

I would think there would be an appetite for a local history museum, so it’s a shame this didn’t come to anything interesting, especially after such a thorough renovation

option 3 may be the best, in terms of overall usage and integration. Looking at the map, I guess I never realized that Kessler Park incorporated all of the Bluffs along that Northeast Section of town. I knew the areas around the Colonnade and open areas by the reservoir were park of park but didn'nt realize the rest of those bluffs are part of things as well. I just thought they were general "woods" that served as locations for homeless camps and illegal trash dumping

The Old North East area, especially over by the KC Museum is such a neat area. Would love to see it come back, as a nice mix of affordable and market rate properties, even some gentrification. Crazy to think such a vibrant area of KC wealth just went poof over time as families of wealth moved elsewhere. Would love to see that Neighborhood come back as it and River Market have the bones for sure and a great close proximity to downtown.

Not sure how long it will take but would love to see it happen blocks at a time or neighborhood by neighborhood

There are walking trails along the bluff through the woods.

There is already gentrification going on in the Old Northeast. I get phone calls and letters every week from real estate investors wanting to buy my house. Several houses on my street have had complete gut renovations.

I wish they would clean up the park. If they did it would be the best urban park in the Midwest.

Samuel Rogers is proposing a 4-story medical builiding on the NE corner of 9th and Euclid, across from the approved multifamily project they're also pursuing. Also 8th St, from Paseo to Woodland, as well as Woodland Av itself will be getting a road diet. Proposal includes on street parking and crosswalks on 8th and two-way cycle track on Woodland.

Adding a bike facility to Woodland will make the abandonment and takeover of the street north of Independence by KCUMB sting even more.

The Paseo Gateway project to re-orient the intersection of Paseo and Independence Avenue will begin at the end of the month.
Work on the Paseo Boulevard and Independence Avenue intersection will begin late this month, according to Kansas City Parks and Recreation Chief Engineer James Wang. The project is funded with $5 million in federal grants and $7 million in KC GO Bond funds.

The project, according to Wang, will reduce crashes at the intersection, provide a safer and improved experience for motorists, pedestrians and bicycle travel, and improve public transit access.
...
The project will be completed in different phases, but Wang said they will keep the northbound I-29/I-35 entrance ramp open for as long as they can.

“The interstate [ramp] will be closed for a period of time and then The Paseo would have to be closed for a period of time, but the intention is to do a little detour,” Wang said. “That highway ramp will stay open as long as possible.”
...
Wang said they estimate construction will be done in the fall of 2023, and drivers should expect to experience short detours.
