From that video, I'd say it's Lawrence. Freaking college towns!

To me the heart of the metro area is the entire urban core i.e. from the Rivermarket to the Plaza and from the westside to the eastside.

The heart is Union Station.

I sometimes hear JoCo people call entire RM to Plaza stretch, 'downtown'. I've heard Northlanders call same stretch 'the city', as in 'going into the city'.

Growing up in Independence, everything west of 435 was either "downtown" or "JoCo". I worked to correct this to no avail.

Oak and 41st SE corner, rear. I found something terrible and wonderful, as it cast my face aglow and an insidious smile split my face ear to ear.

Just kidding.

When I lived in KC, it was probably Westport to me, splitting the difference of midtown to downtown and plaza to waldo.
