Does the relatively urban, youthful nature of downtown Springfield really make the area any more "blue" than the rest of Springfield?

BTW, it's interesting that downtown Springfield also has an urban grocery store - Bistro Market (Price Cutter chain).

It is more "blue" based on my understanding. I had a friend who worked for Norma Champion's campaign a few years ago and his exact description of the electoral map was that it is "a big red doughnut with a blue center" and that the doughnut "gets more and more red the further out you go." FWIW.

Springfield along with SW Missouri is growing pretty steadily. We have several large transporation upgrades which have been made or are in progress throughout the city. Including Highway 65 being upgraded to 6 lanes & the $57 million 60/65 interchange among others. Missouri State is constantly growing with a more influential presents downtown. Drury university has completed there new $13 million basketball arena. Hammons Field is constantly ranked one of the best minor league stadiums in the country. There is steady downtown redevelopment both with public and private participation. Loft development is continuous in the area, along with upgrading the aging infrastructure. Our parks department is constantly ranked one of the best systems in the county believe it or not. Our Wonders of Wildlife museum is in renovation and expansion at a cost of around $80 million. We have a new airport which was completed in 2009 at a cost of $117 million. Plus constant commercial development occurring. Just this week Wal-Mart announced they were building 3 Neighborhood Groceries throughout the city. Does Springfield have its problems, absolutely, but so does every other city in America. Progress does takes time, but it is being made. Not as "backwoods" as you might think.

Old news I guess, but, all of the Quick Trip locations in Springfield have be converted to Casey's General. Kind of makes me sad. QT says they are focusing on markets that can handle 80+ locations.

I need to get down to Springfield again someday, check things out just because. I'm more interested in a few random things in NW Arkansas however - Crystal Bridges Museum, NWA Naturals AA baseball, general scenery.

I think if I was drunk, I'd go for the Caseys Pizza over the cheeseburger logs and chicken taqatos, to be sure. I went down that sad road when I lived behind the QT in midtown KCMO.

best current late night Southmoreland drunk food for me is Santora's pizza delivery (39th/Main). Delicious huge slices, gotta go with the veggie or spicy buffalo chicken. Awesome stuff and so cheap!

I walk over to Winsteads fairly often too, for a double Winstead and chili, but they close too damn early to be worthwhile when you "really" want that tasty grease.

Another feather in the cap of the Springfield restaurant scene.

British newspaper names Farmers Gastropub best U.K. restaurant in the world


The Telegraph awarded its best-of honors in seven categories, including best shop, best accommodation, best pub/bar, best business club, best social club, best sporting club and, of course, best restaurant. Winners this year came from as far away as Dubai, China and Abu Dhabi, with three from the United States.

According to The Telegraph, Griffiths’ Farmers Gastropub was described by its nominator as “a little piece of Britain in the heart of America, this welcoming gastropub was highly commended in our last competition and this year managed to scoop the prize for top restaurant. We imagine its 26 draught beers will be flowing freely to celebrate.”

This was in yesterday's paper, and I had to read it a couple of times to take it all in. Evidently, this is where Jim Rose ended up.
