One of my housemates is from Parkville, and, apparently, the cigar and liquor store there ended up selling its stuff off at a huge bargain (to the point of breaking even) ahead of time to be on the safe side.

So is flooding on the Missouri still a threat to the KC area?  Every time I look at the national radar sites, the Upper Missouri Basin is still esconsed in widespread rainfall.

KC is doing okay so far. Only one levee overtopping in Wyandotte County near the I-435 bridge crossing.  River levels are actually going down here for now, so threat of overtopping is reduced.  They had one overtopped levee in Carroll County east of KC this week.

The biggest problem now is water saturation of levees.  While water levels have gone down in some parts of the Missouri basin, they are still at flood stage against the levees. The agricultural levees are soaking water up like sponges, and there are frequent boils cropping up on the dry sides of levees.

The good news right now is that water flowing into the upper Missouri dams has been reduced to the point that they are letting out more water than is flowing into the reservoirs.

However, with the freakish rainfall patterns in Montana this summer, that could change at any time.
