Kansas City's Bocce 2010/2011 season begins tonight at the American Son's of Columbus hall with 16 teams and more than 64 players in a 30 week competition vying for the championship. League competition is every Thursday evening and guests are welcome.

Bocce originated in Italy and is one of the most exciting and enjoyable sports. It is now increasing popularity in the United States and Canada since it can be played by people of all ages and on a huge variety of surfaces. Basically, it is played between two players or two teams of up to four players on a team. It is played with 8 big balls, 4 of one color, 4 of another color and one small target ball called the "Jack." They can be the cheaper balls or the "professional" painted solid wood type, which of course are more costly. Players seek to set their Bocce Balls nearer to the target jack than their opponent or displace the opponent's Bocce Ball and so look up the position of their Bocce Ball in relation to the Jack. Bocce can be played in a huge variety of ways using various rules.
