I found this interesting story in the online Crime Magazine about the Mafia and the River Quay.

On another note, I miss the old faded "Come See River Quay" sign that was painted on the side of the building on Main. I think the City should commission someone to paint a new one somewhere.

I picked up a book a couple of years ago called "Tales of River Quay: A New Old Towne" written by Marion A. Trozzolo. He was the primary land owner and landlord for the businesses down there. Very interesting.

The Mafia and the Machine: The Story of the Kansas City Mob, by Frank Hayde.
Open City: True Story of the KC Crime Family 1900-1950, by William Ouseley

The movie Blackhand Strawman covers a lot of that era and geography from the late 19th century through the 1980's.
