Tyler Lockett commits to K-State
"I committed the day after the spring game," Lockett said. "I called (K-State's) receiver coach Michael Smith. He accepted my commitment. Then I called Coach Bill Snyder and talked to him about it. He said he was as happy as I was."
On a weekend that started out as a date cleared for Lockett to visit the KU campus and get familiar with the Jayhawks' coaching staff, his commitment to the Wildcats came at a strange time. The evening commute from Lawrence to Manhattan was impromptu, after all, and the verbal pledge that followed was every bit as unexpected.
After taking in Kansas' spring scrimmage in the afternoon, he simply loaded his things in up and drove west. At the time, a commitment was the furthest thing from the Booker T. Washington High School standout's mind. After all, he had spent the previous weekend on the K-State campus and left without so much as a peep about becoming a Wildcat, saying he "wanted to see what KU could offer".
The situation is rare, sure. After all K-State's newest addition for a player who wasn't scheduled to be on campus at all this weekend.
"When I got back over (to Manhattan), I just felt more at home," Lockett said. "I felt like I can hang around the players there and just be myself. The crowd was friendlier too and I liked that."

Familiarity with the staff is the name of that tune.

Because if Mangino had been on billboards, no one would have known which one was the real Mangino.

Re: 2010 - 2011 College Football Season
When we hired Mangino, we were coming off something like a 2 win season, had no budget for football let alone billboards, and he was a major reach. Gill was a hot name for a while, and all of our name players graduated. Who else would be on the billboard? KU is trying to turn a new leaf by diverting attention from the last head coach's contoversy.KCPowercat wrote: why is Turner Gill all over KU billboards and Mangino never was? Racists.

Wrong. The old coach would have given him a second chance. And if he's really good, perhaps even a third.KCPowercat wrote: same stuff, new coach

And if he were a basketball player, the police department in Lawrence would have "unarrested" him.kcmetro wrote: Wrong. The old coach would have given him a second chance. And if he's really good, perhaps even a third.![]()

I for one am glad that Gil actually utilized discipline in this case - something his predecessor was certainly lacking in. Every team has kids that screw up, what separates quality programs from others (at least in one regard) is how the coach deals with it.

I'm a bit surprised they have KU at 31. I'm not expecting too much this season, but I guess we'll see.KCMax wrote: Sporting News: Top 100 Preseason Rankings
