^Yeah unless NKC can magically score an outsider HQ move, a conversion similar to Sprint campus seems likely.

The NKC campus was originally built as Rock Creek office park before Cerner moved in and gradually took all the space and added more.

Yes, Cerner originally had just two floors in one of the two towers. They will likely lease that property out along with trying to sell, which could be hard. I am curious what they will do with the nearly brand new "experience center."

Perhaps there can be some opportunities for North Kansas City Hospital, especially with research and such. Look to perhaps be a compliment to KU Med in the Metro. Hospital hill has its activity being boosted for development, maybe NKC could partner with KCU med school, as it is realtively close to their campus across the river.

Whatever happens I hope we have some innovative solutions to promote. My guess is it's like 60-40, 30-70 Oracle plans on investing anything significant in KC after the merger.
We need to consolidate our medical efforts. Even 2 campuses feels like too much.

STL has 1 major medical center (national scale) and 1 that at least seems around UMKC sized.
Well I think KU Med is well on it's way to be the biggest in kC and it's goal is to be a national scale facility fore sure. I could be wrong but that is what they seem like they have been building towards. Interesting to see what they can build in that area as the grow but I assume they have the ability to buy into the surrounding neighborhoods to continue to fuel growth.

UMKC in conjunction with Hospital Hill is the number 2 I would guess. Just thinking of what could be done with Cerner as NKC hospital grows as does it's Meritas network of providers.

Also I would add that if any HQ type of development move is made I would prefer it to be downtown, especially if it is an outside firm with good growth potential. The office park idea for the HQ campus is most likely with several small to mid sized businesses I'm sure. Hopefully they can find one that will grow as Cerner did over the years.

Just stinks that another home grown major company is bought out and gutted once again.

KU Med wants to be but is a few decades if ever from becoming a BJC-WashU Med.

Cerner struggled before the buy out with attracting top talent to KC and the local talent pool was not up to snuff. All locations in the suburbs or exo-burbs did not help I’m sure.

We are growing a downtown that can better attract talent but I don’t see us turning a local school into a top-talent producer in my life.

I think it can turn around quick, but there has to be a focus on it. Money & opportunity can go a long way. But I get what you are saying. Hopefully we’ll continue our path of attracting talent where we can and gain momentum. Nashville & Austin boomed no reason KC can’t as long as it focuses in on wanting to boom. We shall see

A big challenge for KC is that (after revisions) Pro Biz/tech services jobs have fallen flat for KC and not yet caught up to 2019...
https://data.bls.gov/timeseries/SMU2928 ... raphs=true

Nationally it's increasing well beyond 2019, including Austin and Nashville.

I wouldn't go as far to say lack of major university is the reason, but it sure would help for KC to build up local university prowess at a national level.

I think we're lucky we got 1400 KC leased before all this Cerner shit flooded the market.

Even beyond the grave they're still hurting this city.

so are all the largest Private Business (not counting health systems) now all on the KS side of the metro? TMobile, Garmin, AMC? I guess Burns & Mac is on MO side and big. Hallmark & BCBS also pretty big, but just makes me wonder.

Hopefully KC Leadership has some big plans to attract outside companies and things in place to help up and coming companies as they grow

It’s not as bad as you paint it, but there does seem to be a trend. KC leadership needs to at the very least change the perception

thanks, it is a bit more spread out but KCMO really needs to find some bigger companies to be downtown through the Plaza. Even if we could get one and watch it grow would great. Really hoping we have some planes to inject more businesses and the opportunities the generate into downtown to go along with the excellent population growth we have seen and continue to see

Regardless if the world goes virtual for work or not we are going to need to offer car-free lifestyles to attract people and businesses. Hope we can keep building that downtown and throughout the core

Tbh, KC should create a tax credit program especially for conversion of existing office buildings into residential units. Eat up some class-b supply and add population. I wouldn't say that the Cerner WHQ campus would all be ideal for an apartments, but it would definitely be possible and plenty of parking lots for new builds on. The buildings are all very well taken care of. Plenty of downtown buildings have moved forward but all have had to patch together various tax credits from other programs like historic or low income.

Cerner's world headquarters is in the municipality of North Kansas City, not KCMO.

The City Council of KCMO routinely gives incentives for the renovation and conversion of older and historic building stock. They give incentives for new structures.

Yes, I did know that it was in NKC (I worked there for some years). I was more speaking generally. I understand KC and other cities routinely give incentives for such conversions, but there is no dedicated program especially for office building conversions, right? They are either designated blight or historic, etc? No Cerner building would fall under those designations.

Well, any building can get City incentives; it just depends on if the Council deems the incentives are needed or deserved. Some get incentives simply for renovations (office remaining office) and they get tax benefits on construction materials and new equipment. This is usually an attempt to retain the company in KCMO and its jobs. There are situations where this is done and the building they are in isn't getting historic tax credits.

Anything can be deemed blight. The definition is vague and can often come down to outdated design or peeling paint, stained ceiling tiles, or a cracked window.

Critics might say some of these things are more maintenance issues. In some cases, the renovations might be aesthetic issues and not really structural problems. Is a building blighted just because it has an 80s design?

https://cityscenekc.com/oracle-pulling- ... tion-loss/

Cerner Health Conference will be in Vegas this near, not KC where it's been held since 2007. This plus the campus shutterings plus the number of remote only jobs does not seem to be a great sign for how Oracle feels about KC
