There is a very large steel-framed building currently being built in the West Bottoms on the south side of the Lewis & Clark Viaduct. You can see it from Clark Point. Does anyone know for whom that building is being constructed?

Isn't that the Butler Manufacturing project?

I'm actually quite surprised that anyone builds a new building in the West Bottoms with its history of flooding.

1993 was a 500 year flood, you can't really use it for comparison. Areas that had never flooded since the founding of the country were under water.

And what about the 1951 flood? It covered the entire West Bottoms as well; and it was only 42 years earlier than the 1993 flood. The '51 flood pretty much ruled out people having homes in the Bottoms and Armourdale, which up until that time, they did.

They have built a levee since then that handles nearly any flood - with the exception of 93"...of course. 93" was just one of those floods that crested nearly every levee in every major city. That levee did keep anything from going under, unlike the 51" flood, which did massive damage to the West Bottoms.
