My observation as well. Wait til that 3 story country bar gets built where Californos was. Westport is going to be a hopping place again.
I can confirm that Taco Bell is busy

Building a patio in the parking lot next to MCoys really adds to the street feeling alive. They should have done that a long time ago.

Yeah I went there after the KU title game it was surprisingly the only happening spot in Westport at the time I was there. Had a cop standing over a gal puking into a trash can. The westport we've all grown to know.
A true right of passage

My right of passage was getting too drunk with my friends at Blizzard Beach and throwing up in some grass while a homeless man made fun of me before pestering me for money. I couldn't wait to go back the next night.

They’re attracted to light, so maybe this’ll serve as a partial pest remediation as well

The fire didn't want to go anywhere near those bathrooms, which is understandable.

Oil and gas money from Wichita. They own a large amount of undeveloped land down here.

Am I weirdly cynical for being 1. grumpy it's not local money but 2. happy it's not coastal money?

As long as they build and don’t sit on it, I don’t really care if it comes from Wichita or not

Let me rephrase that: they own a bunch of undeveloped land on the outskirts of the city. Like the Wichita equivalent of 190th and Quivira. Heck, they even took a go at partnering with someone for a “micromansions” (600ish square foot houses) development but it never took off.

Does anyone know if Transit Coffee at Westport and Main survived the streetcar construction? There's paper on the windows now...

Per their website, they’ve ceased daily operations, but are still open for events. Construction it seems hampered business, but they’re likely to come back following opening of SC.

It did not survive. The Tailleur people are opening a cafe/bar in the spot.
