I am starting a new thread because the original is locked for no apparent reason.

Current tenants now include: wal-mart sc, SAMs club, home depot, best buy, sports aithority, michaels, office max, and kohls.

The ug just issued a 10 million dollar constuction permit for the grading to begin.

No Menards. I went to college in Indiana and absolutely despise those commercials. "Save Big Money at Menards!!"

My bad. I forgot I already started a new thread for the Plaza at The Speedway. It's been awhile since I've Posted.

Site preparation has been underway for some time, but they had the ceremonial ground breaking today and announced some new additions.

Wal-Mart is under construction and will be open by fall of 2009.

100 percent confirmed are Best Buy, Office Max, Michaels, and the Mattress Firm.

The developer has backed off after initially indicating Kohl's, Sports Authority, and Home Depot had committed. They are apparently still on the table but not 100 percent committed.

Also no more talk of Sam's Club coming from the developer.

New announcements are Red Lobster, Olive Garden, and Taco Bell.

Eh, despite this "plaza" at the speedtrack, nothing gives me incentive to drive all the way out there.  NFM is a draw for me and I'm sure I'll check out the new Schlitterbahn some once it comes but thats really it.  I can go to a much closer Best Buy, Olive Garden, Red Lobster and live next to a SAMS Club.  All those stores/restaurants will do is allow those that live in that vacinity to stay in the area.  Fine by me.  I certainly want the area to be successful but dayum, I just spent $40.75 filling up my COROLLA!!

Geeman -

This new project isn't designed to attract people from across the metro. Its supposed to provide for the needs of the immediate vicinity, and given the lack of standard amenities in that area, it should do quite well.

Thank's for letting us know the new things coming to. Hopefully the others come or other types like them.
We need more Red Lobster with the 2 here one in Overland Park and other in Olathe so busy.

Why?  I don't shop to live and I don't live to shop.  A big majority of my time spent shopping is at the grocery store and that is one mile from home.  Do eat out but then most of the restaurants are usually no more than 10 minutes from home.

Who knows.  You just might be a visitor there before me.

Update on the project....

While driving home today I noticed construction has started on the Best Buy for this area.

I'm kind of suprised they started on the Best Buy before the Super Wal-Mart...but it does appear they are about to start building the walls for the Super Wal-Mart.

Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Michaels, and Office Max have all signed leases are a definately coming to The Plaza at the speedway, in addition to announced restaurants Olive Garden, Red Lobster, ect.

Kohls was leaked but is now unsure. I read that they are considering a location in Bonner Springs so I'm not sure how that would affect a store proposed for the Plaza at the Speedway. It may be a one or the other type of decision because I can't imagine them having a store at both.

Also Home Depot has retracted, at least for now, which is understandable considering that chain has ran into a rough patch and is actually considering closing underperforming stores for the first time in their history.

Also announced, but now up in the air is Sports Authority. I think they are reconsidering based on the fact that a Super Scheels has been announced as Schlitterbaughn's retail anchor.

I'm not sure what happened with the proposed Sam's Club. Anyone know the status?  Has it been put on hold or scraped all together?

That was Linens and Things. Basically the same place though.

Blood bath and beyond. Great Simpsons reference. One I use regularly.

Yeah...put BAM out of business so there's another large hole in the Star bonds built shopping center.

I'm new to the board and happen to live down the street a few miles from PatS - and it happens that I drive by it almost everyday.

I'm curious what they are going to do with an almost finished Best Buy (they seem to be doing interior work on it now) when there is no way to get any where near it.  The entry ways and parking lots in that section of the project are a long way from being done.

Oddly the entry way and parking lots near the Walmart part of the project seem fairly far along (even have some of the parking lot lighting done).  But at that end none of the slabs even have walls yet.

What a crazy way to do development.
