Do you detect suspicion about what a billion dollar investment might mean for those neighborhoods?

Not shocking. They’re probably worried about gentrification. That’s why I’m kinda thinking that even if Vine did get chosen the residents would try to run it out of town.

18th and Vine still needs our attention and some help. It can come up steadily with the right development but dumping a billion dollar stadium there just has zero upside.

18th and Vine is in the path of East Crossroads expansion anyway. Even without the stadium there, they will meet up and then fill in.

East side voters are what actually kept KCMO from building the city backed light rail starter line. Even though most of the system was on the east side.
They have also voted against the streetcar expansions.

I would not count on voter support from the east side for a new stadium no matter where it's at.

Time to negotiate, advertise, vote, design, build a stadium and open it by 2026 is running out. CM and Mayor today claim discussions with Royals about multiple sites have occurred but no site proposal nor a public ask.

If they open in 2026, need to start construction in late 2023 or early 2024. Cardinal started Jan 2004 and partially opened April 2006 for reference.

I fully agree. Enough with this shenanigans. We all know Royals want to go downtown. So unveil the design already & start campaigning for it. Trying to be coy still literally does nothing but just waste everyone’s time. I honestly don’t know what they’re waiting for unless the design still isn’t done.

Cards did that with a very complicated build that required waiting to destroy the old stadium in order to finish the new one. So this should be a breeze! Wishful thinking.

Kauffman ranked #16 on USA Today's list of best MLB ball parks
In the first few years after the renovation, The K was solidly among baseball’s top 10. But the Truman Sports Complex location makes Kauffman Stadium feel so isolated compared to other big-league parks. The Royals are even exploring a move to downtown KC. Still a solid ballpark, though.

You can fit a 1 million sq ft convention space on the lot that Kauffman sits on.

Just saying a downtown Royals stadium is not a lock. Expect Jackson County to make a proposal for the Royals and Chiefs and it just may surprise you.

Then one or the other will go to Kansas if it’s a weak sauce offer from the county. That’s how this works.

Suburban Jackson County is the main one complaining about tax breaks. If there is no LRT and extreme ped improvements than there is zero point of even trying, and with how small minded many EastJaxCo residents are a vote would likely still fail.

I still think the State might do something to retain the Chiefs in Missouri. Most likely if they can pass sports betting in the next session, and devote a majority of that tax revenue to sports facilities.

The state has to be smart enough and realize the Royals are alot more important to economic growth. I have no problem with them helping the Chiefs too, but 81 games in a downtown vs. 8 homes games in a field...no brainer. Even they can't be that stupid.

I never said anything about a downtown football stadium. I meant the State might create a funding mechanism to keep the Chiefs in Missouri whether it be staying at TSC, or building in another location on the Missouri side.
