Great day overall for the neighborhood and good will towards yes votes.

They just dumped an extra million into the campaign yesterday. Clearly they know they are losing.KCPowercat wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 1:54 pmThen it would make no sense to make this change if nobody cares.Metro wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 1:50 pmIt's panderinfg because they are behind. No actually. They know they're winning but it's not by much. They're hedging their bet. Welcome to politics.Metro wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 2:00 pmThey just dumped an extra million into the campaign yesterday. And good on them for making compromises after hearing the people. Solidifies the fact they do want to be good neighbors.

No they aren't. They are changing things as the votes roll in they know this thing might not pass.DColeKC wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 2:41 pmNo actually. They know they're winning but it's not by much. Build it up closer to Grand than their initial vision. Cut the width of Oak in half and eliminate on street parking. It’ll fit, but barely.

Would have to be the smallest form factor of any MLB stadium, maybe ever?Chris Stritzel wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 3:31 pm Build it up closer to Grand than their initial vision. Cut the width of Oak in half and eliminate on street parking. It’ll fit, but barely.

Why do the offices and hotel have to go east of Oak? Take the gas station and storage place or tear out the new bank building just south of where home plate would be integrating the old KC Star building into the stadium.

What's the smallest now? Target Field? Didn't Populous have to fit that one into a tight spot?beautyfromashes wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 3:34 pmWould have to be the smallest form factor of any MLB stadium, maybe ever?Chris Stritzel wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 3:31 pm Build it up closer to Grand than their initial vision. Fenway N/S is under 500'. Grand to Oak currently is 610 feet wide, 820 feet truman to 17th. Target is 800' x 730'

MLB wouldn’t approve a Green Monster today. The balls would be landing on Oak. How about a computerized water cannon/feature that knocks home run balls headed for Oak down?KCPowercat wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 3:56 pm Fenway N/S is under 500'. It doesn't matter if the vote is next week or in a year, changes are going to happen as the public has time offer feedback. Sure, if you want to say they agreed to change it now in order to help the vote, fine but who cares. That's politics.Metro wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 3:22 pmNo they aren't. They said Oak will remain open, they didn't say it will remain straight. I dropped some basic drawings in here months ago showing how a small stadium could work while adjusting Oak a bit. Very common around baseball stadiums.
Hard to imagine how they'll fit a stadium strictly between Oak and Grand. About 100 feet short of even the smallest modern stadium width.

I assume this is before cutting into the City street right-of-way? Seems like plenty of room if you account for some of that.KCPowercat wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 3:56 pm Fenway N/S is under 500'. Grand to Oak currently is 610 feet wide, 820 feet truman to 17th. Target is 800' x 730'

Interested to see how going from very traditionally shaped Kauffman to one of the leagues smallest stadiums that will also now probably be very asymmetrical goes over with older /suburban/traditionalist type voters.

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
Yeah at minimum they will cut oak in half. If they are tabling buying up buildings east side of Oak they can't make it too crooked (yet)DColeKC wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 4:10 pm They said Oak will remain open, they didn't say it will remain straight. Stadium design minimally impacted by keeping Oak open. Grand side will likely have a less dramatic and more narrow sidewalk.

Confirmed they still plan to buy all they can across Oak and proceed with developing that block.KCPowercat wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 5:31 pmYeah at minimum they will cut oak in half. Signed Lease agreements are done. Of course, some will say there's not enough detail but this vote needs to happen before more detail can be added.
