The Jackson County portion of KCMO is estimated at 320,000 for 2002, which is about 70% of the entire population. There is a small portion of the city in Cass County, but that is less than 100 people.

Thanks Dangerboy! Wow, that really speaks to how much density the Jackson County section of KC has lost over time....it is rather comparable to St. Louis when one frames it that way. We really need to focus on stemming that tide!

If you look at the trend, the loss is tapering off. The population of the urban core has stabilized and even begun to grow again in many urban neighborhoods.

Much of the recent loss in the Jackson portion can be attributed to older, inner-suburban areas of southern KCMO - for example the Ruskin and Hickman Mills neighborhoods.
