KC gets decent share of touring shows

At least part of the concert was a touring show.  Shawnee Days had Edgar Winter Saturday night.  Great night, nice weather, and not a bad place to see a concert - especially a free one.  He opened for Shooting Star, a local band that had a limited national success in the 80's.

Really, it should have been the other way around.  Could have taken more of the albino and less of the locals.

New Wizards stadium could put Sandstone to death....hopefully

seriously, i miss randomly picking up the pitch and finding a good show on any given weekend...and quite often any given night...

i usually try to come out and support my beloved touring kc bands like life and times, etc.

Also just saw that the New Pornographers are playing the Truman in April.

Ah yes. Every band name mentioned in these posts I’ve never heard of before, which probably isn’t uncommon. I’m surprised they can fill the Midland. Must have a decent following to do so.

Hopefully smaller groups continue to come in larger numbers. Maybe they’ll have their “breakout” moment here and become the next big group.

For the record I agree with Trailerkid, spring and summer do seem pretty light concertwise.

I just don’t know what happened to all the small/midsized festivals that used to be here. When I left KC in 2015 there was Middle of the Map, Red White and Boom, Boulevardia, Buzz Beach Ball, Rockfest, Dancefestopia, and even a Chipotle sponsored festival.

Now that’s all gone and it’s just Boulevardia and Dancefestopia. What happened??

Is this a facilities issue? Is midland too small? Not a good design or old tech?

Midland was completely updated back in 2006/2007. The stage was enlarged too I believe.

Touring is slowly climbing out of the deep hole it fell in during the COVID epidemic. It will probably be a couple more years before things get back to normal.

COVID hit things hard, bands for to do less dates so they pick the biggest bang for the Buck cities. The Buzz dying really killed a lot of the alternative shows. They always did a great job of filling the calendar with shows. So I’m not sure who’s left out there as promoters to get bands back to KC. I don’t follow country acts at all & my pop music knowledge is very low.

Basically, we're shut out of any show above a certain size unless they go to Grinders, Starlight or Uptown and two of those are outdoor venues with limited dates.

Municipal Auditorium is a ticketmaster venue right? Why don't more concerts go here?
