Following up on our visit. Good live music, decent crowd, standard menu, responsive service. Aside from the name and the logo, a great launch for the district. Seeing an actual movie next week. Have only visited a movie theater twice since the pandemic -- one private rental (Screenland), and one in the suburbs (Merriam). Very happy to have this option open downtown again, and to see B&B take care to renovate the space quickly while putting their own spin on things.

Landlord spent almost a million on the renovation as well. Nice to have it back open, always loved that building.

Caught the new Bond film last night. New seats are comfy and heated. Side tables create awkward moments if you don't know the person you're sitting next to. House lights remained dim (verus off) during the entire film. It's nice to see everything in the restrooms working again (Alamo was the worst).

Here's hoping they can staff up to use all of the screens and have the bar open every day (now closed Sundays/Mondays). You can order adult drinks at the concession stand, but the bar seating area and full menu is closed on those days.

The Mainstreet Theater turns 100 tomorrow. B&B Theaters is celebrating with 100 cent popcorn.
The 3,000-plus seat Mainstreet Theatre opened in October 30, 1921 with Conway Tearle in “After Midnight” on the screen and on the stage Eddie Foy & the Younger Foy’s in “The Foy Fun Revue” plus vaudeville acts. It was the only theatre in Kansas City designed by the Chicago firm of Rapp & Rapp.

Big gaps in availability this month. Wanted a movie on Thursday, Nov. 11 but there's nothing showing between Nov. 9 and 18. Staffing issue?

The theater is so great again! Brought back the leather reclining seats and they’re even heated. On Tuesdays, all movies are $5 for B&B club members (can buy two tickets for $5/each) and you get free popcorn. Back to my favorite theater again. Glad she’s back.

Haven't checked it out yet but this is great to hear. Was easily my favorite theater in the AMC days; wasn't a huge fan of Alamo's (frankly) downgrades/updates. Love that it's a local operator again. Need to get down there ASAP.

Vanderbilt Mansion Treasures Make Midland Theatre Space ‘Sexiest Lounge in KC’
...
In the early 2000s, Millstein photographed the former smoking room for historic tax credit documentation. Quite familiar with the room rich in architectural and design splendor, she says the Vanderbilt room’s relocation story was relatively common around the time Cornelius Vanderbilt II’s widow sold the mansion to be demolished in 1926.

That’s when movie-mogul Marcus Loew made his move, purchasing the smoking room’s colorful tiles and mosaics. He thought they’d go well in Kansas City’s brand-new Midland Theatre, which would open the following year in 1927.

The $5 dollar movie is a great deal. We got a membership while down there last week to see Avatar. Nice theater.

Best deal in town. Tuesday night movie for $5 and free popcorn, heated leather reclining seats and great sound and video in a historic building. Can't beat it.

I really wish they would go back to having the outdoor video screen show movie times again on it. That would prob help the theatre a bit too.

I think I remember hearing when I was there that they're just replacing the old screens with OLEDs.
