I have implemented something I've always wanted for this site: tagging.

At the end of every thread there are links to add, edit, or remove tags.

View all tags here, or at the "tags" link in the horizontal menu. Pursuant to this, I have set everybody back to the ugly-style old forum default theme, because the whitish theme doesn't support the tags.

Any questions? Let me know.

Why would I want to tag something?  :)

OKAY! Since people went a little crazy with the tags, I'm going to restrict its ability to admins, mods, globals, and some lesser underlings. About 40 or 50 people. However, when you create a thread, you can tag it with whatever you want.

I'm going to make a tagging group.

Whats is the purpose of tagging? How does it work for me? I don't understand. If I tag something ( but I haven't) than what?

What is the point if everyone cannot do it?

Users that create a thread have access to tag it as it's being created.

The plan at the moment is to add people to a group of users that can add, remove, and manipulate tags on threads that already exist.

The use of tags is for more effective and flexible categorization of information. See wikipedia for more information.

Wow.... I just read the wikipedia article and now I'm even more lost as to what tags are than I was before.  WTF is "social bookmarking"?  Sounds like an STD common among librarians.  :)

Since the board is organized by category, the posts have titles, and there's a search engine, I just don't get what these do.
