Dem leaders want Mayor Barnes for Congress
Barnes courted to face Graves
WASHINGTON | Democratic congressional leaders met with Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes Thursday hoping to persuade her to run against Republican Rep. Sam Graves in 2008.
Barnes, in the capital for the U.S. Conference of Mayors winter meetings, met with House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland and other top Democrats.
Asked if she was talking about Missouri’s 6th District race with Hoyer and Rep. Chris Van Hollen Jr., who heads the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Barnes said, “I’ve been involved in some general discussions, but I don’t have any comment beyond that.”

I'm pretty satisfied with the job she did for us. I'd vote for her in a heartbeat.

Why? It's not like she did anything for Kansas City. She's just a puppet and who ever runs her are the puppet masters.DaveKCMO wrote: barnes has scheduled a press conference tomorrow in st. joseph to announce her run for congress.

Re: Dem leaders want Mayor Barnes for Congress
Given the situation in the country right now I would say that she has an even chance of unseating the incumbent in the district. It all depends on how strong the Democratic wave is in 2008. If it is like the midterms, she could pull enough to win. Keep in mind she has a fairly strong network and infrastructure. Much stronger than most first time congressional candidates.

Yea, but isn't that with the Ward Parkway elites? Remember, she's running in a district that encompasses Kansas City only north of the river, and has a lot of rural voters.KCTigerFan wrote: Given the situation in the country right now I would say that she has an even chance of unseating the incumbent in the district. Um, Barnes is a Democrat? Really? I would never have thought that.

I do not know about Kay Barnes but I think she will do a good job in congress.

Kansas City mayors don't technically have political party affiliations.

Right, but I'm sure Funk is likely a registered voter. Perhaps an independent, but I was just curious if he's ever tipped his hand as to what party, if any, he belongs to.mean wrote: Kansas City mayors don't technically have political party affiliations.

Funk is a memebr of the Whig party. Damn Whigs!!!
Keep in mind that MKB is originally from St. Joe. I believe that she has a fair amount of network North of the River and a small but possibly influential group in St. Joe.

Wikipedia claims he's a Dem. No idea where the information came from though.KCMax wrote: Right, but I'm sure Funk is likely a registered voter. Perhaps an independent, but I was just curious if he's ever tipped his hand as to what party, if any, he belongs to.

Paintfumes, she did absolutely nothing positive. She has only brought the city to its financial knees and the city will be bankrupt within five years...Paintfumes wrote: Can you or anyone name the things that former mayor kay barnes did for Kansas City ?
