In the city I live in the UK, you have to push a button to cross and there are a lot more pedestrians around than in downtown KC. I just don't see why it's such a big deal. If the sidewalks are constantly filled with pedestrians as they are here, then the button has almost always been pushed by the time you arrive. The buttons here also stop traffic in all directions so there is no danger of being hit by someone turning left or right. Speaking of that, right turn on reds should be prohibted downtown to make traffic more amenable to pedestrians.GRID wrote: If it’s an urban area where there are a lot of pedestrians, you should not have to push a button. Period. And it needs to be consistent throughout the entire area.

i wonder what's going in those three blank windows along main under the escalators. will they be painted beige drywall forever? or will we see blinky lights and movie posters?
nice to see the southbound bus lane FINALLY cleared, although in typical P+L fashion it is still being blocked by service vehicles (see also walnut).

I vote for blinky lights! Mainly because I like that you called them blinky lightsDaveKCMO wrote: i wonder what's going in those three blank windows along main under the escalators. will they be painted beige drywall forever? or will we see blinky lights and movie posters?

I would like to see those though, would add a nice nostalgic touch. 8 foot tall 3D cardboard cutouts with moving parts and LEDs are overrated. Bring back old school posters.

Re: AMC coming to Empire, Midland to be restored...
Can somebody describe the layout of each theatre (cinema suite)?
The way I understand it, the top three tiers will be reserved for 21+ patrons and alcohol and food will be available. The remainder of the theatre will be open to 18+ patrons and only concession food will be permitted. Correct?
What is the seating capacity of each cinema suite? Are they all the same size? I believe it was discussed that these theatres will, in fact, be showing mainstream movies in addition to the documentaries and foreign films?

Quick question about these full-service theaters: While watching the movie, do you have to worry about some waiter wandering in between you and the screen bringing the guy next to you his plate of nachos? I haven't been to one yet, but the picture above made me wonder.

typically they don't just wander. They have a certain time they come in and if you don't order then you might not get much more opportunity. They are usually so unnoticed you miss your chance for another martini.

the cinemark VIP does a decent job of being inconspicuous. go check that out for a matinee and see what you think.jimb wrote: Quick question about these full-service theaters: While watching the movie, do you have to worry about some waiter wandering in between you and the screen bringing the guy next to you his plate of nachos? Ground floor was packed full of people eating this evening. I assume it's a training exercise/soft opening. We should be getting close.

well, the Kansas City FilmFest is supposed to take place there, and that'll be April 22-26.
KC Region is all part of the same animal regardless of state and county lines.
Think on the Regional scale.

I'd bet they'll be soft opened in April but maybe not advertise a grand opening until May 1. So you might be able to see movies in April, but listings may not be in the paper til May?

Yeah, the front of the house looks pretty near done, so unless the theaters themselves are way behind, it would be hard to imagine they need over a month.
