I was surprised to see a high crane. I expected 3-4 floor buildings. Why is it difficult to get rendereings of federal buildings? Powercat, have you tried requesting them from CDFM2?

The construction behind Union Station for the post office move is also much larger than I expected. They have taken up almost the entire lot behind the station.

Any Fed Reserve renderings out there as well?

actually since the site is so large, the cranes are tall to load heavier objects over longer distances... Simple science... Not because the buildings will be tall.

Devin, for once, you are right on ;). They are only about ten stories high...

New pics. There will be four tower cranes. Impressive. The garages are going up east of the Pershing Building and west of Union Station as well.

Any chance these cranes will still be around when the H&R Block, Arena and Cordish Development get started in earnest? All of those cranes would make one hell of an impressive sight when driving along the DT interstates.

I thought the IRS center was suppose to have massive underground garages. They are already building the foundation at surface level.

The underground garage(s) will be on the opposite side of the pictures post above (along Pershing Road). I walked by there today and there is a very massive hole in the ground.

Personally, I kind of have a bad feeling about the way this is going to look. I have this feeling that since a lot of the space will only be used seasonally, that not a lot will go into the aesthetics of this project.

Anyhow, I hope that I'm wrong.

Here's a rendering of the IRS Complex Annex:

I think we should start calling the annex "little brother," or even "mini-me."

i am thrilled at the influx of 6,000 workers into that part of the city, but what a god-awful monolithic typically "government" style building. why does it have to look like a fortress? it has about as much curb appeal as the Allied-Signal plant in SKC.

it's the IRS, we had to have expected something like this from them... However I like the facade...

The IRS were alot smarter than the federal reserve, building a low building in a low area, the Federal Reserve are gonna build a highrise on the highest point in the downtown area...

I think the architects went for modern mirror image of the old structure. You can see that it has similar elements; it looks like the original building, but one that has been squished down by a press.

It does look like a prison though. Perhaps it is a subtle message that people shouldn't try and cheat on their taxes, or else they will end up in prison.

I think it looks considerably better than what I had imagined from the IRS...though they took the easy way out figuring no one could complain about the same design that has been there for 70 years.
