Phillip Rivers finds new and interesting ways to give away ballgames. How does Norv Turner still have a job?

Funny how a QB controversy can start after a 3 point game against a mediocre defense.KCMax wrote:QUARTERBACK CONTROVERSY!!!!

Next season, the Chiefs should have Palko play the first half, and Cassel play the second half.

I really thought they would give him next year with all the players back to see what he could do.

I supported Haley until he got the penalty yesterday. To me, that's a sign of a bad coach.
In any event, I hear Turner Gil is looking for a job.

They should have let him work out his contract, but Pioli is apparently too much of an asshat. IMO, he's the one who should be gone. He's the one who screwed up. Cassel is his big money guy, and Cassel wasn't getting it done even before he got hurt.

If they would've done this last week they could've hired Weis

I guess the Chiefs will just have to wait until next year when Weis walks out on KU.kcjak wrote:If they would've done this last week they could've hired Weis

The Chiefs are $30 million under the salary cap. Cassel's salary is basically irrelevant.grovester wrote:Not to mention the atrocius lack of depth.mean wrote:They should have let him work out his contract, but Pioli is apparently too much of an asshat. There are two schools of thought on the chiefs. The first is that that they have a strategy of drafting and playing younger players and accept losing to get better draft position. Once they have a solid core together they will start spending in free agency to try to bring a core group together that can win in the playoffs. This explains why the have refused to spend money on free agents. (The top free agent in the last five years have been Steve Breston and Ryan Lilja. Guys that don't even register on the NFL national scene.)
It was clear the Chiefs didn't think they were good enough to win in the playoffs this year when they didn't bring in an experienced backup for Cassel. Yes they had a chance of winning the west if San Diego stunk it up again. But winning the west doesn't mean you are going anywhere in the playoffs. the players see these signals. It wasn't a big secret. When you take that approach and injuries hit, you might as well lose the games to get draft position.
The second theory is Clark Hunt will never spend anything close to the salary cap because he is too cheap and needs the cash. That theory gained credance in the recent off season as chiefs went 10-6 and still did not incrase spending significantly.
the new CBA has a minimum spending level. That may force the Chiefs to be more active in free agency. It will be interesting to see who they hire as the next head coach. Jeff Fisher would be a solid hire.

Re: 2011 Chiefs
I know a ton of people want Bill Cowher, but I don't think he'll take the job. In the alternative, I think Jeff Fisher would be a sensational hire. He always seemed to coach up a team that wasn't all that talented. Great defensive minded coach that would do great with this young defense. Pair him with a great OC and I think that could be a successful team.

My biggest fear right now? Josh McDaniels, as he is connected to Pioli via the Pats. I don't think that's likely, but it is scary.

Re: 2011 Chiefs
While I didn't like the way Haley acted yesterday, I'm not sure that I completely blame him for the losing season.
Last year, Chiefs go 10-6 and win the division. This year, Haley loses his Pro Bowl QB, his Pro Bowl RB and a few other key players. And with 3 games left in the season, the Chiefs can still win this division.
So, other than Haley not getting along with Pioli or maybe playing favorites with players, I don't exactly the reason he should be fired in the middle of the season.
