Anybody have the comparison statistics of Plaza area v. DT area muggings, rapings, car jackings, etc?  Do you just prefer your crime to be covered up?

If you honestly think there's no crime diff btw the Plaza and DT, then I really won't be of service in this thread.

Oh well in that case I have seen a couple red light runnings and several exceeding the posted speed limits.

You're right...it's much higher on the plaza statistically....I've lived in both areas and had zero problem in both areas.

You continue to "kick the tires" with absolutely no idea of what you are talking about.  Serves you well.



As for any cover ups?  It was on all the nightly news last night....what more needs to be done?  10 part Pitch story?

I've been poking around at places down on the Plaza, kicking some tires.  I won't consider DT for the crime problem.  I don't care if the LA Lakers move in to SC and a condo tower with 2000 sqft places for 100K went up next door.

what crime specifically in your research has marked downtown off your possibilities?

my crime map could give you an idea....although it doesnt' do totals, only maps crimes.....which also doesn't take into consideration density of either location.

This has also been communicated in meetings from attended by the police...community watch meetings, etc.

In other words Chriz, Powercat has absolutely no basis for his opinion on this.

Kinda makes you wonder why he's so intent on ripping me for being "uneducated" on the topic.  Maybe I just need some time in...um....watch meetings?  LOL

I tend to trust the police and their word more than anonymous internet OP resident telling me downtown is crime ridden...when I'm actually here everyday.

Stay down there...it fits your lifestyle better it seems.  Scary downtown/plaza isn't for everyone.

i have no doubt that, say, 10th and cherry or 11th and oak are sketchier than the plaza (after dark at least), but i imagine that the more populated parts of downtown (west crossroads, garment district, river market) are pretty comparable crime-wise as the plaza area.  both areas have a fair amount of vehicle-related crime, occasional muggings, the odd carjacking.  just par for the course!

MD....again avoiding questions.  What do you base your comments on other than stereotypes?

I've actually lived in both areas....I have a pretty good handle on the crime each presents...not the same as hitting happy hour at Falloon every week and driving home.

I encountered (and my neighbors) more crime each of the 15 years I lived in West Plaza than in either of the 2 years I have lived DT.

what i find silly, besides the almost zero police patrols dt, is that amazingly enough, drugs are openly sold in the park right next to police headquarters.

I think people feel safer on the Plaza because there are more people, but I've always heard the crime rate there is higher than downtown.  I think they found a body on Brush Creek in the last month or two.  I'm guessing crime will increase downtown as more people come down there, but it won't bother people as much because they'll be a lot more people.

I have been robbed and burgled at both locations many times..the only difference is, I either knew or should have known the people uptown vs. the downtown who did the robbing..

For those of you who have not witnessed crime in the downtown loop, you must all live west of Walnut. Besides the two shootings in front of my building, I've witnessed drugs being sold, prostitution, assaults, verbal & sexual harrassment, and vandalism. Maybe the new downtown information booth the CID placed at 11th & Grand will slow down criminal activity. 

You people should keep your blinders on and stay safely tucked away in Quality Hill and the Garment District.
