Nothing worse than field work when you're sick. I love the epic snotsicles when the temperature really drops. Maybe 2 feet of snow will get you an extension and a chance to get back on your feet.warwickland wrote: Jimmy says it's going to be as big or bigger than the '93 SUPERSTORM. We are looking at ice in stl/illinois, too. I get to finish some groundwater sampling in central illinois this coming week because i came down with the flu and filled a 20 oz QT cup with vomit last week.
OMG when does the misery end.

Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread
Three employees have asked to crash at my condo. Let the bidding begin.
Love living so close to work and everything else but never get a snow day excuse.
at least no reason to go horde food at the grocery store.....some bar will be open within walking distance.

Last night, Cosentinos looked like a carcass that the vultures had picked over. Employees said they had a mad rush of folks from 2 to 6 and that it was like the NCAA was on, except everyone was buying bread, beer, wine, milk, meat and produce, rather than beer, salads and pizza..KCPowercat wrote: at least no reason to go horde food at the grocery store.

I went there over lunch and they seemed to be pretty well restocked. There were a lot of people though buying more than just the usual lunch items. Myself included. ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

There is probably a science behind stocking just enough frozen pizzas at any given point in time that customers feel compelled to buy as many as possible.scooterj wrote: I went there over lunch and they seemed to be pretty well restocked. Now that you mention it, I did notice that the frozen pizzas were about half gone.

I went by Cosentinos again this morning and there were only 3 other customers in the place. As few as I ever remember seeing in the place.scooterj wrote: I went there over lunch and they seemed to be pretty well restocked. Overnight they had restocked and everything looked quite ready for the fearful hoardes to come.
And now, rather than the grocery report, here's the latest weather forecast.......
"HISTORIC AND POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING WINTER STORM TO IMPACT THE AREA TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY"
Holy Snowgasm, what a headline!

So, how is everyone handling this mess?
KCMO is about to declare a state of emergency.
I-70 will close between I-70 between KC and St. Louis within the hour. Parts of I-70 are already closed.

Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread
I think the bulk of the storm is narrowly missing us here in St. Louis. It hadn't started snowing yet when I went to bed last night at like 3:30, seemed to be sleeting a bit when I woke up and there was a couple inches of snow, but I haven't seen it snow all day and I don't think anything is falling now. Even just a few hours ago I was reading we were supposed to get 9-12" today but looking at the map we're pretty clear right now and it seems like we probably will be until late tonight when there's like a five hour window where we might get something. I'll be pretty glad if it skips over us though, I already got today off anyway and if I can get a day off without even having to deal with obnoxious amounts of snow and ice in the aftermath, that'd be pretty nice.

That's good. All snow here so really not that bad..
Although the metro shutting down at 8 tonight until 8am is pretty rare.

Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread
The storm is even affecting Houston. Not so much with snow but temperatures are going to dip to about 20 degrees tonight with 3 straight days with highs in the low 30's and lows about 20. That may not seem so dire to people in KC but homes here are pretty permeable to cold and bursting pipes are fairly common during cold stretches and tropical plants don't fare well either. Last year, our office closed when it started snowing, it came down heavy for about an hour but never stuck to anything and everyone panicked. I feel sorry for the alligators in the bayou behind our house.
