Florida closing Business again.
In a best-case scenario, the economy will return to normal in September 2021, in the worst case he says it will return to normal close to September 2024. Either scenario, Lenk pointed out, is better than the six or seven years it took the United States to recover from the Great Recession.
It was the worst of all worlds for Trump, he looked bad taking the chance to increase the spread CV19 among one of his staunchest states and he looked bad because of the poor turnout. Not to mention his fascist threats before the event to violently handle any protesters. Now his people are doing damage control about his "slowing testing down" quip. His hardcore fans won't blink an eye but Tulsa was still a pretty dismal affair for his re-election committee.
I dunno, six thousand odd people, most of them crammed together in the lower seats for the sake of photos, who don't believe in the virus in the first place and won't wear masks, seems like a lot of potential spreaders. Two Trump staffers who were there have already tested positive. We'll see...
I think it's hilarious that kids on TikTok wrecked the rally but it's not like it was a significant blow to Trump or his campaign. We all know, just like sports it's really all about the TV ratings and online viewership. He still had at minimum 12 million people watch the rally. That's where you pick up the votes, who cares about the thousands of fanatical fans that show up in person. We all know how they're voting.Highlander wrote: ↑Mon Jun 22, 2020 6:17 pmIt was the worst of all worlds for Trump, he looked bad taking the chance to increase the spread CV19 among one of his staunchest states and he looked bad because of the poor turnout. I'd guess that he lost votes on that sorry spectacle. No one wants to be associated with a loser, but they do want to watch him squirm.DColeKC wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 4:43 pmI think it's hilarious that kids on TikTok wrecked the rally but it's not like it was a significant blow to Trump or his campaign. I think it didn’t hurt him much. I have this feeling a very large number of people have already decided to vote for him. Those who are not obvious fans of his. Many of these people are ashamed because the name calling and rhetoric towards those who support him has gotten so far out of hand. Millions will vote for him and say they didn’t. Classic two party bullshit! I feel horribly uncomfortable with him or Biden leading this country.grovester wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 6:50 pmI'd guess that he lost votes on that sorry spectacle. I don't like Biden all that much. But with Trump, I'm not sure the nation as we know it can survive another 4 years of him. While he tries to come off as a law and order president, he's not kidding everyone. He's an enormous threat to the rule of law in the US; he thinks law does not apply to him. He has threatened to imprison his political rivals, the press, and those ideologically opposed to him. His clearing of Lafayette Park revealed how little he ultimately cares about individual rights. He outwardly advocates for voter suppression. He fires anyone in his administration that disagrees and anyone (that he can) in the public service that investigates him or his allies making him among the most corrupt presidents ever. He wants to be King (aka dictator) which is everything his base is supposedly, but apparently is not, strongly opposed to.DColeKC wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 7:14 pmI think it didn’t hurt him much. I have a hard time believing that he has won more voters than 2016. The world has moved on.DColeKC wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 7:14 pmI think it didn’t hurt him much. DColeKC wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 10:31 pm The polls are eerily similar to 2016, so it looks to be another close one. I wonder if Trump does win again, if his massive ego would lead him to be more of a centrist? His ego wants him to go down in history as something special and once he doesn't need to placate to the right, I could see him doing some decent things. Than again, it has been such a turbulent 4 years I'm not sure I want to find out!
Most people don't understand the difference between entitlement programs and socialist type programs. Social security and medicare are not socialism, so those old folks yelling they don't want socialism but don't want the programs they paid into, worked a certain time to receive and isn't contributed to by the government makes perfect sense. Also, collecting taxes to pay for public services like the police and fire department isn't remotely close to socialism either.Major KC Fan wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 11:46 am That demographic would be angry old people that scream “socialism” in one breath & then scream “keep your hands off my Medicare & SOCIAL Security”. If they really don’t want to participate in socialism they should refrain from using those programs along with using the police, firefighters, government-funded highways & streets, etc......Never ceases to amaze (and sadden) me how ill-informed many people are that vote against their own self-interests.
Too bad it’s not a requirement that everyone be exposed to a basic civics class at some point in their lives. Math and science requirements alone can’t prevent the social stupidity that’s evident on a daily basis. Case in point the late-night TV hosts that periodically do “on the streets” interviews with the general public and ask basic civics questions that we all should know.
