Overall US average isn't showing an increase yet but might soon as it's only been about a week/half since protests. However stats are likely misrepresented with some kind of bias in many cases. As well as testing rates maybe changing. Florida is now accused of reporting some COVID related deaths as something else.

Not sure it's a good idea to look at national numbers, in the same way it's not a good idea to look at national polling on the election.

With NYC's numbers going down dramatically, national numbers will mask increases in mid-size cities where the backlog of hospital and icu beds will actually happen.

Arizona cases have exploded Louisiana is experiencing a second wave. Contrary to Trump's argument that hot weather put an end to the virus, it seems to be thriving in the US's hottest states. My theory is that in places that are so hot that they require being inside under AC to be comfortable, the disease will spread faster because everyone is proximity that comes with being inside and AC facilitate the spread.

According to ABC News:

Hospitalizations have spiked in seven states including Texas, Arizona, Florida.

There has been an uptick in 18-35 age group in states that have reopened.

The FDA has revoked emergency authorization for hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, and says it is not an effective treatment, and may diminish effectiveness of another drug given in treatment.

Twenty-eight people were infected at a church in West Virginia, and that church had to be disinfected by authorities.

The Tulsa health department director is begging President Trump not to hold a rally there.

Chloroquine by itself is not an effective treatment, it serves as an ionophore, so it’s a treatment that 100% would need a heavy zinc supplement

Half of the people in California testing postive for COVID are under age 35.

Gov. Abbott of Texas chastised young people in his state for not wearing masks.

Oxford University has reported that Dexamethasone, a low-cost steroid, has cut the risk of death by a third for those on ventilators, and 20 percent for those on oxygen. The drug reduces inflammation.

For people under age 40, a study from Japan has shown that one person can infect five people in a cluster of people.

Florida has seen its highest one-day increase in COVID infection rates since it started to reopen.

Twenty states and Puerto Rico have seen increases in infection rates. Hospitizations have increased in 14 states.

An outbreak in Beijing at a wholesale food market is causing concern of a second wave of COVID causing the city to impose a lockdown.

Well the Gov could make it a requirement.

Given masks are apparently more effective at preventing spreading to others than preventing personally getting it, the mask debate seems to break down to those who have a consideration for others and what's best for society vs. individuality and those who relatively tend to care more about themselves.

Yet I'm not wearing masks quite as often in public because if most everyone's not doing it, does it really matter. And yeah, I think I'm being selfish when I don't. But still mostly do wear. Given countries that require masks have COVID relatively better under control, seems the US should require yet at same time isn't likely that's realistically doable given perhaps half+ who take individuality/freedoms a bit too extreme.

Good news on treatments that may reduce deaths. If effective and more treatments surface (I've invested in one that has a realistic shot with existing uses/Plan Bs and the market is huge enough for various solutions), there might be even broader lackadaisical concern for acquiring the virus for better or worse.

According to ABC News:

Infections rising to record highs in 20 states -- including record highs in hospitalizations in Texas, Florida, and Arizona.

San Antonio announced Wednesday it will mandate residents wear face coverings.

There are spikes in infections and hospitalizations in three Alabama counties.

Tulsa has set a new record high for hospitalizations prior to President Trump's political rally.

Hispanics make up 33 percent of hospitalizations; Black Americans are 4.5 times more likely to be hospitalized that whites.

Infections are increasing but death rate is dropping. In the past. month we have had 19k deaths vs 100k in 2 months

We are better off if everyone if everyone healthy just got infected and get it over with instead of dragging it out

We will likely get our 2nd 100000 deaths as fast as we got the first.

Variolation is a valid idea, but this virus has weird effects that are not fully understood. Specifically, effects on cognition and other brain functions. Also kidney and liver impacts. I wouldn't want to get infected at any age just for herd immunity. Not while there is a chance an effective vaccine may be available within six months.

I do think the death rate will remain lower because we now know not to intubate/ ventilate (but use high oxy instead), and also to monitor nursing homes much more carefully. That plus some of the new therapeutics should keep the death rate much lower, even if the US sees community spread return.

But this is still a nasty bug. Lots of unknown and possibly lifelong after-effects.

According to ABC News:

Thirteen football players from the University of Texas have tested positive for COVID.

California's governor orders everyone to wear masks.

Texas' governor insists schools will reopen in the fall.

In Arizona, 51 percent of people testing positive are under the age of 45.

In Florida, people under 18 are testing positive at nearly double the rate of state residents overall.
