yeah, I thought the same thing....1950's bowling alley meets 1990's movie complex. What happened to modern cool casino renderings? What happened to Hard Rock?

Think that's what it said in the biz journal article. I can just picture now hillbillies in jorts taking pictures next to the John Wayne likeness.

That's freaking hideous, although par for the course (western wyco), I think it sort of brings the only sort of cool venue in the area (nascar track) to the same level of tackiness of everything else out there.  I realize nascar in general is tacky, but the track itself is neat, till they build that thing onto the side of it....

Should have approved one of bigger projects like Pinnicle instead of drooling over the Cordish project (that never materialized).

KCK made the same mistake KCMO did (when KCMO said no to what would have been an amazing project in the Harlem area and approved the stupid Flamingo instead).

You can do a nice casino if you do it right, otherwise, you end up with a tacky POS.  KCK is getting the latter...

from what i can tell, jean shorts have been hipster-approved for a few years.  cutoffs though, not 1993 jorts from the gap or county seat.  short cutoffs, a ratty tank top, and some thrift store penny loafers = the quintessential crusty art kid summer outfit (for both males and females).  add a nappy rattail, tattoos, and a library tote bag and you're ready to sit at yj's and do nothing!

Dumbest looking casino I have ever seen and one of the worst renderings ever. Way to F up the Speedway with that.

That looks fucking terrible.  Who designs these things?  I know they have to take into account the budget for the project, but damn, that DOES look like a movie theater complex.  You would think they could at least build a taller hotel or something.

I guess the upside is that the final product never looks like the rendering.

It looks like a movie theater because it has a hollywood movie theme.

hopefully they'll get some memorabilia from "Heart Like a Wheel" and "Six Pack" to maximize the appeal to the WyCo crowd...

i think our expectations are too high for a state-owned casino, although the renderings of the dodge city one are actually better.

Whatever this things ends up looking like it is going to be a boon for governments in Wyandotte County.

In addition to the 3 percent of revenue mandated to go to the city and county (the city portion is being split between the 3 cities in the county under the terms of an inter local agreement designed to allow all the cities a share of the money) they are donating $500k annually to charities in the county as well as $500k annually to be split between the 3 non-host school districts.

On top of that they are paying an addition 1% annually to the county for civic use of which they advanced the UG a $335K for the first 2 months of estimated revenue.
