Casino land event today
Tribal leaders and Unified Government leaders are expected to attend the announcement today of an 80-acre land purchase for the Sac and Fox and Kickapoo tribes' resort and casino near the Kansas Speedway.
The event will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. today at Cabela's in Village West.
Tribal officials said the $210 million destination resort hotel and casino would generate more than 1,500 new jobs in the Village West area of Kansas City, Kan. It also would bring in an estimated $40 million to state and local governments from gaming revenues.
The casino proposal is in negotiations with the governor's office, according to state and tribal officials.
"I have seen the Kickapoo, Sac and Fox proposal for a casino in Wyandotte County," said Sen. Chris Steineger, D-6th Dist. "I think it's a good overall proposal. I certainly support the concept. I support the governor and her staff in negotiations with the tribe, and I hope we can consummate these negotiations very soon. They've dragged on too long already. We need to finish the negotiations, and bring them to closure, so we can move on to Washington, D.C., for the final approval."
