my partner's boss was the one who did 40 Sardines, and I'm sure he'll be strongly courting Smith's new spaces. I'll do my best to find out what the plans are.

I know Gimme Sum is listed as a confirmed tenant, but this bit from the Star makes me wonder.

http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascit ... 709650.htm
•Gimme Sum China Grill, Olathe Pointe, 14947 W. 119th St., Olathe, full-service, upscale Asian restaurant whose offerings include lettuce wraps, noodle dishes, ribs, pot stickers and honey garlic chicken.

The area franchisee had looked at The Legends at Village West in Kansas City, Kan., and the Power & Light District, but decided to concentrate on the suburbs first.

A location may open on the 135th Street Leawood-Overland Park corridor later this year.

Both "interesting" concepts.  A restaurant built around a Bourboun theme?  I think this place has been rumored for some time but I have to wonder what the market will be for it.  I guess it will be unique.  I am a bit out of touch with US fads, is Bourbon really that popular?  I like live music but dueling pianos and audience sing-a-longs do not sound like my kind of place (Howl at the Moon).  Anybody ever been to one of these?  I'd still like to see the higher profile things like HRC/ESPN Zone show up on the tenant list.

I've been to the piano bar in the Landing in St. Louis. It was packed and a great time. Its not the kind of thing you go to every week though, more of a one time destination.

I think the Maker's Mark house has a larger market than you'd suspect.  Stateside, the last 10 years have seen aquite a renaissance in bourbon drinking, especially as an upscale drink, kind of the new scotch...I like the concept because its semi-unique and involves whiskey.  I don't drink much bourbon anymore, but I know a lot of whiskey snobs who stand by Maker's as the best bourbon in its price range, kind of the old stand by drink for whiskey drinkers.  I would assume the restaurant caters to upscale whiskey snobbery, the tweed jacket/no tie set.  That said, I'm glad to see tenant anouncements that are more off the beaten path, but still have the possibility for large market appeal.

this is a good announcement.  Makers Mark sounds like a great concept and while i personally don't like piano bars, i think a piano bar would be a welcome, successful addition to the P+L District.

this sort of cancels out the more lackluster announcements/rumors (Jos a Bank, etc)

i don't know actually, but cordish is pushing them and we've got bonds to pay off, so we'll all be eating a lot of them for the next quarter century.

I wonder how The Bulldog feels about a tax payer subsidized piano bar just up the block.
