Helz should validate the PAC garage and save herself a lot of money.pash wrote:So I didn't realize that the Vitagraph Building also has its own garage. That just makes this all the stranger.
There's more than 8,000 sq ft of office space available in the Vitagraph, though, so maybe Helzberg thinks she'll fill that garage and her clientele at the Webster House will be unwilling to pay a couple of bucks to park in the PAC garage.

Re: Film Row building threatened with demolition
The Save the Orion Building Facebook page reports that roofing is being removed from the structure. Does this mean demolition is imminent?
I don't see any demolition permits filed on the structure on Kivanet. However, there is a code violation filed today, and an inspection, that was resolved.

Councilman Scott Wagner seeks to protect KC's historic buildings
"One of the sad truths is there are so many times someone says, 'if I only knew that building was going to be torn down, I could have done something about that,'" Councilman Scott Wagner said.
Under current law, a property owner can apply for a demolition permit and destroy the building, even if a third party is trying to get an historic designation on the structure.
Wagner wants to create a system that suspends demolition until a ruling can be made on the property.
"Any city that embraces its history, generally, is a city that attracts people to it. Whether it is for tourism or residence or business," Wagner said.

Re: Film Row building threatened with demolition
spitting distance from a huge garage that is empty 50% of the time, we build a garage. 1 step forward, 2 steps back.
I'm all for a owners having a lot of say over their property but in downtown zoning, can the city not pass an ordinance that all "parking" new construction whether structured or surface, go through additional approvals to make sure it fits with the approved parking plan?

Re: Film Row building threatened with demolition
I have an idea what they're doing.
the property owner wants to have a pay garage near a potential UMKC campus location.
if that doesn't happen, they could sell spots to residential project
they're hedging their bets. it's capitalism at it's best and worst

I think you just put more thought into it than either Shirley Helzberg or Jay Tomlinson have.
