gingrich has called the 2012 election the most important since 1860. nothing like a little hyperbole to kick this off right...

Politicians say that every election--especially presidential ones.  It's like kissing babies to them.

Its easily the least important - what with the world ending and all.

Mike Huckabee will not be running for President, he announced late last week. Recent polls had Huckabee as a front-runner in Iowa among GOP candidates.

I don't know why, but Missouri has pushed back its primary to the first week of March, rather than the traditional "Super Tuesday" in late Feburary.

Both parties want to push back the primary schedule and let IA/NH/SC/NV have their primaries first, then everyone else in March or later. If states do not push it back, the parties will threaten not to seat that state's delegation (like the Dems threatened to do with Michigan and Florida for not complying in 2008, leading to the whole Clinton kefuffle at the convention)

The GOP primary will be interesting with Gingrich, Ron Paul, and Herman Cain serving as wild cards who will not necessarily echo the party line, and Michelle Bachman who is just flat crazy.

Obama acknowledging what we already know - Missouri is now a red state in terms of Presidential elections.

I don't want to admit that Missouri is a red state yet.  I'd argue that even though McCain won Missouri by about 3,000 votes, the 2008 election was the closest in Missouri.  The next closest race was in North Carolina, a state that Obama won by 30,000 votes.  So, I still have a hard time seeing Missouri as a red state, but maybe I'm just don't want to face the truth yet.

Obama with a rather ballsy foreign policy address...I admire his courage but blame the Arabs for invading in 1967.

Missouri is still a battleground state, but less important with one less electoral vote and new battleground states like VA and NC. MO is more important for the Repubs than the Dems. A Republican can't win without Missouri but a Dem can.

excellent point, a lot of these state are important, but not equally for both.

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels is out of the running - which is too bad. He's one of the more sensible, pragmatic Republicans that would have at least injected some issues that need to be discussed regarding budget issues.

Tim Pawlenty, former MN governor, is officially in. Yawn.

Newt is not in it to win. He constantly runs for president to stoke his marketing machine so he can sell books, promote some film he's involved with, and book speaking engagements and talk-show appearances.

Your assessment is probably correct. I bet it is true of many politicians. I've heard that many do not possess the skills to perform any other kind of work. We do live in the information age, so maybe it isn't all that bad for these folks.
