Not sure what you took offense to. The commercials I saw pointed out her liberal tendencies, ballooning deficits that have nearly bankrupt the city, and higher taxes. You are just mad because one of your own got called out. Her commercials were no more or less "cringe-worthy" than Graves.chrizow wrote: Graves' ads regarding Kay's "Big City" record and "San Francisco values" were some of the most cringe-worthy in this election cycle. what utter horseshit.

Kay should have made it a close race, but its hard to see how she doesn't lose by double digits.

yeah, youre right. Kay Barnes was all about pork like downtown development, sprint center, etc. while Sam Graves wisely funneled $150,000 to curb "goth" culture in Blue Springs. it's refreshing to see such laudable fiscal management. he also supports torture, essentially unfettered govt surveillance of american citizens, voted for Congress to intervene in the Schiavo family debacle ("small govt LOL!"), etc.jlbomega wrote: Not sure what you took offense to. Re: i voted.
I just voted for whoever "wasn't" shown driving around in a tractor or pick-up truck or walking through a corn field with their kids. That does nothing for me.
Barnes didn't raise taxes, the people of KCMO did because they thought the city needed to be invested in again.
If we had somebody more in line with Funkhouser in office during the Barnes era, KCMO would still be literally falling apart and falling off the map, not only nationally, but regionally. You would think that would count for something, especially considering a failing KCMO was a net loss to MO as KS gains the most out it.
Barnes helped turned around, or at least helped begin the process of turning around Missouri's largest city. A city who's economy subsidizes much of outstate Missouri's existence.
Barnes will lose though. The conservatives threw a ton of money at MO media to defeat her, a ton.
Too bad, KC desperately needs more representation in DC and by representation, I don't mean somebody that is against stem cell research, transit and urban development.

edit: oh, and, I totally missed the JOCO,MO/JOCO,KS gaff.... good game.
In addition to advance voting in KS making it go faster there today, a friend who voted in PV said the only thing on his ballot was President, Dennis Moore, and a handful of judges. They don't have all the issues and state elections that we have going on on the Missouri side.

You forgot to add reverse discrimination to Kay's list. Also, Sam Graves doesn't even represent Blue Springs so I'm not sure what you are talking about. You are probably rambling like usual.chrizow wrote: yeah, youre right. "According to the Associated Press, Graves spent nearly half of a $273,000 US Grant for spending on urban youth programs in his district on curbing gothic subculture in Blue Springs, Missouri in 2002.[12] Graves sought to spend $118,000 of that money for therapy, assessment and case management, as well as a series of town meetings to discuss the issue. But because there was not enough interest, Graves' project shifted from Goths to counterculture and negative influences."
john mccain even called graves out for this ridiculous use of tax dollars.

Isn't there a map earlier in this thread that shows the sixth district map, including blue springs?

Here it is. I also love the idea that when you disagree with someone, you twist their statement so that they have to provide you with proof because you are too lazy or uninformed to figure it out on your own.AllThingsKC wrote:

Its a factual statement. You were the one challenging it. Blue Springs is certainly in the 6th district.

This is my polling location as well. I worked harder for my "I voted" sticker than ever before.Tosspot wrote: I got to Immanuel Lutheran on Westport Rd just after 6 AM... and the line was so damn long I'm going to try later.
I showed up at 6am, hoping to get in and out. The voter registration books that you sign in on were the wrong ones. New ones showed up around 6:45 - still the wrong ones. The correct ones didn't come until just before 8. I still didn't get to vote until after 9am. Just over 3 hours for my entire experience.
It didn't help that the person running the A-G line was going exponentially slower than the other lines. I had people that got in line an hour after I did that ended up voting before I did because their last name started with W. The worker also initially tried to have me sign the wrong person's line before I pointed out that my name (which she could see on my ID that was still in her hand) was not even on that page.
While we were waiting, an attorney was walking up and down the line collecting names for an official complaint to the KCEB, and we were told that lawyers for the Obama campaign were petitioning for extended voting hours at that location so the required 13 hour window would still stand.

got off work and got to the church on 43rd and north oak at 11:45. no one in line and only 2 people working on their ballots. was out in 10 minutes. about 8 people showed up while i was in there. ballot eating machine showed about 355 ballots ate. voted straight dem. voted for prop A and for some sewer financing scam. skipped the all english and judge retentions parts.
i wouldn't of voted for kay if she was GOP, but she wasn't. i was hoping the light rail thingy would of been on the ballot so i could of voted on it, but it wasn't.
i hope the party at the flying saucer is legendary. have fun. i'll be asleep. the first person to post pics should start a new thread in the photos section for the party.

Indeed. I went on to work after going by at 6 am and 8 am and being frightened away by the horrid line down the block. Later on my boss told me about the fiasco you mention... so damned incompetent it's infuriating. So I went by yet again, this time at about 2pm - in and out in five minutes - THANKFULLY.

Aw, geeeez. Like I said, I was still pretty groggy when I voted, and now that I think about it, I don't recall the lady using the scanner after I handed the card back to her.KCMax wrote: A caller on KCUR said that at St. Paul's in Midtown, there was no indication once you complete your ballot that you must have it read by the ballot scanner on your way out to make it count. He said he just popped it in the ballot slot, then when he saw the scanner, he realized his error. I wonder how many others made that mistake.
Should I go back and ask her if she remembers? If it's not very busy, that is...? Would you?
