SKC tops Philly and will host the US Open Cup finals at Livestrong Park, either on August 7 or 8th.

The US Open Cup winner gets an automatic berth to the CONCACAF Champions League.

Lance Armstrong could be banned from cycling, stripped of 7 Tour de France titles for doping.

Does this taint the name Livestrong Sporting Park?

Hopefully not. Not in my eyes. Still a great fundraising organization.

That game was so much fun- my first national team game. Was very cool to experience how this game felt compared to regular MLS games and to feel the other teams fans try to lift up there team (only to be out-cheered every time by the "home" team). Hope to see more of it here.

Agreed. It was a great atmosphere. Outside of the 4th of July, it is great to have a chance to wear your patriotism, quite literally, on your sleeve (and watch world class athletes). The Guatemala fans were all pretty good sports from what I saw.

Absolutely. And I was also pleased to see the USA team fans were passionate, but behaved well also. It was a great atmosphere overall.

Sporting KC’s promise of youth soccer fields drags on
In 2010, the team pledged to build nearly two dozen youth soccer fields in Wyandotte County as one condition of the subsidy for the 18,500-seat stadium now known as Sporting Park.

Yet deadlines have come and gone with none of the fields being built so far. Not even their future locations have been identified for three inner-city fields that were supposed to have opened two years ago, or the 18-field, tournament-quality soccer complex that was to have been ready by this past Dec. 1.

Sporting officials insist they still intend to make good on their promise. Construction will begin sometime this year, a spokesman said. Likewise the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City expresses confidence that the team will honor its obligations to taxpayers.
